Dollar Tree trip

I had to go to town today for some errands (bank deposit for the church, Walmart,of course) and decided to stop by the Dollar Tree. I really like that better than the other dollar stores like Family Dollar and Dollar General. I found a few items and as I was checking out, I talked to the cashier. I told her I had heard that Dollar Tree was changing to carry some items that will be more than one dollar. She said not all the stores are changing, at least not yet. I guess corporate wants to see how sales are affected. I think it's a very unwise decision. Dollar Tree is unique compared to all the other dollar stores and if they become just like them, they'll lose a lot of business, I'm afraid. People love knowing everything in the store is a dollar and you don't have to check prices. I get a lot of good bargains at times. Once in a while, though, it's proved that "You get what you pay for." But I have bought items that I know were more expensive at Walmart. If you shop at the Dollar Tree, will you still shop there if they add items at higher prices?

I seriously doubt that if Dollar Tree raised their prices unless I have no choice.

We had two similar stores here, not everything one dollar, everything 2 Swiss Francs (a little more than $2). It worked well, people liked to go buy little things. I often went to buy decorations. They changed, you had to check the price of things... they closed.

@1creekgirl People liked to go inside and know that everything they saw was at the same price. They did not last long after they changed

I think that might happen to Dollar Tree also.

I don't shop at any of the dollar type stores, I used to but they never had what I am looking for.

I wouldn't drive extra for the Dollar Tree, but it's right close to Walmart.

We do shop in the Dollar Tree here... and will probably continue to shop there even after they have items priced higher than one dollar. I won't like having to check the prices, but will still do it.

I've shopped there in the past, not often. I like the fact prices are a dollar. You can't find that anywhere else.

I just have to look wisely and decide if it's a bargain at a dollar.

@1creekgirl Yep. MANY people don't realize it's not always a deal even at a buck. I used to point out the tubes of Ultra-Brite. They sold them at Walmart for 97 cents.

There is not one close by. Only Dollar General. They are on every corner since the headquarters are in Tennessee.

@CarolDM We live about ten miles from Walmart and Dollar Tree, so it's nice to have Dollar General two miles away.

Definitely not as much. There won't be anything different between that, and any other cheap store if they raise prices, besides I resent they might be doing this. IN the case of the one here, there is a Family Dollar they also own next door. They can put the items that are more than a dollar over there, and leave DT as it is.

I still would but would appreciate it if these items are marked accordingly so no confusion happens.

It will depend on the item. I get glad spray at Walmat 8 ounces for 93cents and it is a $1 for 6 ounces at Dollar Tree. So it depends on what you buy.

You're right. Even though it might be a dollar, when you compare cost per ounce, it might actually be cheaper at Walmart.

I mostly go to Walmart, but the Dollar Tree is right close to it, so I get things like wrapping paper and cards that are much less.

I don't shop at the Dollar Tree because it isn't close to where we live. We have a couple of other dollar stores-Dollarama, which are closer and I shop at both on occasion. They have had prices over a dollar for years now. I can understand Dollar Tree raising their prices, things are rising in price, regardless of what it is, so they will need to do that to keep their doors open I would imagine.

My Dollar Tree now has some spaces that are three to five dollars. Though most of the store is still a dollar. It seems to me that a lot of it is art supplies.

There are things that I think are worth a dollar like wrapping paper, plastic containers, paper goods, but some things I don't trust like OTC meds like aspirin.

And now, just a few short years later, that seems to be what they are doing, having raised prices to $1.25 a couple of years ago to now adding in "Plus" sections. I fear the same, they will simply become another Dollar General and there will be nothing at all "special" about them. It is what it is, I guess. But I agree, I think they are making a mistake.
