Our new massage-stick

At different stages of our lives, my husband and I both hurt our backs quite badly, and from time to time, we still have trouble. It takes very little to upset mine and certain actions will bring on a certain amount of pain. We have found a really good chiropractor here. She doesn’t crunch bones thankfully. I always hated that but relies on massage and other methods to achieve results. She also suggested we buy a massage stick which is what you can see in the photo. We have found it very useful and I use it nearly every day on my sore spots. We were able to buy it second-hand. The seller said that, since he bought a new mattress, he’d had no further trouble with his back which was interesting in itself.

Yes, I used to have a cheap mattress... After I bought a better one, I haven't had any problems with my back.

Leaning forwards using a computer screen is well known to cause neck problems. Your spine is designed to support your head held at the top, not at the front. Try positioning the monitor so you can sit with your head held straight, looking forwards, and I am sure this will be better.

I use it on my neck sometimes and on my leg if it starts to ache when I go to bed.

I’d never heard of a massage stick.Good news that it helps. I have damaged disks in my neck, I wonder if it would help me. It looks expensive.

@RubyHawk They sell them on Amazon and one that looks just like ours costs just $A35 so that isn't really expensive at all. But they also range a great deal in price.

They are quite expensive which is why we were pleased to find a second-hand one. It was recommended for Vince but I now use it more than he does.

We also buy something like that. It massages by vibrating. It is helpful to us and effective to relax the muscles

@JudyEv - The massage stick helps, also an ointment when it is more painful. Today is better than yesterday.

Glad you have found something that helps. Funnily enough I'm just thinking of getting a new mattress. This one was bought when Big One was a baby and I think it's getting a bit saggy. I sometimes wake up feeling like my back muscles have gone into a sort of spasm, or other mornings I can't straighten up right away.

Mattresses don't hold their firmness forever but they are an expensive item to replace - or can be.

We both sleep in recliners now to help our back problems. I'm glad your chiropractor and your massage stick help you out.

@JudyEv I can't sleep on my sides due to hip problems and pain from my spine. My husband's recliner is big enough that he can sleep on his side if he chooses to.

Yes, we have a good mattress. Places here now give quite extended trials on mattresses which is a good thing as it's hard to know if it will be comfy just from lying on it for a few minutes.

That sounds rather useful. Although, "massage stick" sounds a lot like "cat toy." Of course, that can be said for most things. It is amazing what a difference a mattress can make. We had bought a new one when we moved in here, and it seemed good at first. However, I'm now about to the point of replacing it. The quality isn't as good as our previous mattress; that wasn't apparent at first but has become so over time. It's not a terrible mattress, but I think that it would be better suited for someone younger.
