The bananas are so slow to ripe

i bought a bunch of bananas 3 days ago. They were still green when I bought them. normally, they turn yellow the following morning, but this one I bought just turned very light yellow on the upper part, not the whole part. i want to think that the cold temperature slows down the process. am I right to think of that?

Warming them up makes them ripen faster.

True but it can also make bananas taste funny, too. It's easier to just put them into a closed container with apples. Apples give off a gas that can cause other fruits and vegetables to ripen faster. That's the reason you aren't supposed to store apples with other fruits and veggies.

@DaddyEvil You are right. One time I wanted to make banana bread THAT DAY, but my bananas were too green. I put them in a warm oven and was able to ripen them enough.

@1creekgirl Yeah, using them like that is the only reason I'd warm them up, though.

Yes, probably so. Try putting them in a paper bag. They will ripen faster.

You're the second person that's mentioned that on this discussion. I've never heard of that before. (But I also don't want my bananas fully ripe before I eat them, either.)

May be that they are less ripe than usual. Here it is cold, but they turn yellow in one day. If they are less ripe it takes up to 3 days.

@Janet357 I often buy bananas that are partly green, but never totally green.

@DaddyEvil Well you will never know until you try.The wrapping in newspaper or brown paper bag creates warmth and speeds up the ripening process

I've never heard of wrapping bananas in anything to get them to ripen faster. I have used aluminum foil wrapped around the stem portion of a banana to slow down ripening on them, though.

Wrap the bananas in a plastic bag they'll get ripened the next day. You'll notice their sweats. Or place them in a covered jar, the cold climate slows down their ripening process.

You are right. I think the cold weather will slow down to ripe the bananas. If you want the bananas ripe faster, I heard a way. Put the tomato or apple with the bananas inside a paper bag for a night. It will speed up the ripe process..

Yes, cooler temperatures can slow down the ripening process with bananas. You can speed the process up even in cold temperatures by putting the bananas with apples in a closed container for a day or two.

My best guess is that the cold weather did affect how the bananas did not ripen fast.

Yes dear, cold slows down the process. Luckily we get ripe bananas here and they are very sweet so there is no problem
