Ouch! Bursitis is a Pain

I have bursitis in my left hip. I have had it since my late thirties off and on. I think I got it because I have toted babies on my left hip for many years. After my son was born I used that hip to carry him around. Then I did home daycare for a couple of years so I toted a lot of babes on that hip. Then I had twin girls so the hip did double the work. When the twins were four, I realized my hip really bothered me, and my doctor suspected bursitis. It bothered me off and on for years, then disappeared about three or four years ago. But it's back now and very painful. And I am limping because of it. Have you ever had bursitis? Do you have any tips on how I can heal it?

@Kouponkaren Most pain I get I can usually walk off. Have you tried taking a soak in an epsom salt bath. I do that when my muscles are sore

That's painful! I had it in my left knee many years ago. I was in the hospital for a week, and on crutches for several weeks. The doctor gave me a strong dosage of Ibuprofen for the pain. I haven't had it since. I hope the pain goes away again and doesn't come back.

Thanks. Although I can take painkillers for it, I prefer not to and instead want to find something that will get rid of it. I have been trying to rest it but that means I can't take my dog for long walks.

@Kouponkaren I don't know if you can get rid of it without painkillers.

@kouponkaren Can’t say I’ve ever had it - and I have no intention of getting it. Hope you get some relief.

Ha ha, your comment about having no intention of getting it made me laugh. Thanks on the relief comment. I hope so also. I miss walking the dog through the woods.

@Kouponkaren I know how easy it is to let things slide.

@RubyHawk Thanks. I think I just need to buckle down and do some research online about how to make it go away. I just haven't spent much time on that. I have been too busy during the holidays and just lived with the pain.

My Dad had it and used to get cortisone injections. He also used a cream.

@CarolDM Oh no, I hope I don't have to resort to that. My insurance is awful and probably wouldn't cover them. I have to do some more digging on the internet to see what I can come up with.

I don't think so, but if I overdo it on my walking I get achey. I am thinking about glucosamine, but not sure it will really help because I think it is mostly for joints but it can work wonders.

I’m so sorry you are in pain. I’ve never dealt with bursitis exactly but I have sciatica often.

I have never had bursitis and not sure what it is.

It sort of feels like arthritis but it is from a swollen bursa sac in a joint, usually caused by overuse. I don't know why it flared up again unless I overdid it on a walk with my dog? I haven't had any babies on that hip in a long time, but it is just a lifelong tender area for me now.

@Kouponkaren . You sure used that "hip"

@marlina I carried my own 3 kids on that hip plus the babies I took care of in-home daycare so that poor hip had a lot of wear and tear. I was in my 30s then though so not a time I would really think of damaging my body by taking care of babies.

I had a case in my left knee and every now and again it acts up. Most irritating

thanks Karen it is interesting to know. In Kolkata in India we use hot water bags and keep them touching the hips to avoid bursitis

@sathviksouvik What do you recommend for people who are already having a bursitis flare-up? I read to ice it to take down the inflammation. Do you think cold or heat is better once it is already painful?

@Janet357 From what I have heard so far, resting it, ice and maybe some stretching exercises which I haven't tried yet.

I have no idea what it is. Sorry you have it. Hope it gets better soon. I don't want it . Maybe ifnits making you limp you need to get your feet up and rest a bit. Walking will make it worse by the sound of it

@JimBo452020 Yes, walking does make it worse and unfortunately, that was my main form of exercise. So now I am sore and fat, LOL! Yes, they say resting it will help and it does, but doesn't get rid of the problem. I am going to try to go back to swimming in the indoor pool near me, icing it, and resting it. The poor doggie will miss her walks.
