Two Right Feet?

Reading Judy Evan's post about someone wearing odd shoes reminded me of the time my husband took odd shoes when we were going on a cruise. They were trainer type shoes (which I believe are called sneakers in the States) and he had two similar pairs, goodness knows why. Anyway, the trouble was that they weren't just from different pairs, they were for the same foot! Would you believe he insisted on wearing them?? He was mostly confined to a wheelchair by then so it didn't matter too much, but they still must have been uncomfortable. You can read Judy's post here - https://www.mylot.com/post/3497969/odd-socks-maybe-but-odd-shoes

Haha - I wonder if anyone noticed. As you said, they had to be uncomfortable.

It wasn't as if he hadn't got any other footwear with him, but the more I told him they looked silly the stubborner he became

Lol that’s funny. Could you convince him they’re not the right pair?

How funny. I have 2 pair that are alike but I'd go nuts if I were to put 2 right ones on.

Well, with some shoes it can be hard to tell the difference between the two but I'm sure it isn't something you would not feel.

After that I made sure I did his packing for him whenever we went away. Perhaps he wasn't so silly??

@jabouk Kind of thing my father would have done. He called such footwear ‘mutton dummies’.

@xFiacre I've never heard of that expression. We used to have plimsolls which were similar.

@jaboUK Apparently that's what trainers were called in Belfast in the 1930s when he wore them!

He was a thrifty person and hated to chuck them away ,though it looked strange to wear them.

Some would even say they chose them on purpose! It would have been really uncomfortable had he had to walk for long.

I imagine it must have been. I have never grabbed two left shoes or two right shoes to wear, but I have grabbed two different high-heeled sandals and wore them to work once. I noticed the difference as soon as I sat down in the fluorescence light at work and was uncomfortable about it all day.

They weren't that rigid so sitting in the chair didn't seem to inconvenience him too much.
