I’m sure the whole myLot community is upset by the happenings in Ukraine. I knew nothing about their president but this is what I’ve found out. Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy was born on 25 January 1978 and is a former actor and comedian. He has been president since 2019. Before going into acting and comedy, he gained a degree in law. One of his TV shows was hugely popular and, in it, he played the role of the president of Ukraine. What really impresses me is that he is reported to have said in his inauguration speech: “I don’t want my portraits to hang in your offices, because the president is not an icon or an idol. Hang pictures of your children there and look them in the eyes before every decision”. How powerful a statement is this? Would that every president would say the same. The fact is that he thinks like this because he is not a politician.

@JudyEv His wife and his children are hidden inside an atomic shelter, unfortunately many children are dying under the Russian bombs right now.

I thought it a powerful comment. Most put their own photos up in offices, etc.

I actually did know this. Some of this came out around the time there was supposed to be an investigation into Joe Biden's son over there. Who the knew president was, who took office in 2019, was part of the story. He has had a very interesting path to power.

@porwest That was great, wasn't it? Most leaders would be hiding in their bunkers by now.

I didn't hear or read the statement but that's a very powerful statement and this shows he is an ordinary person who has emotions more than the lust for power like other politicians have. We are hearing lot more things which makes me give him more respect.

@JudyEv yes I heard no president in the world showed the courage to fight along with their army like he is doing at present in the war. He did not run away.

He really does seem a 'leader' in the true sense of the word. He isn't hiding in a bunker like most would.

I knew he was an actor, I forgot he was born on January 25, the same day as the cousin of my husband. He is good because he is not a politician, I hope he can do something for his country.

@JudyEv I agree, Putin has not yet used nuclear weapons, but he will if he cannot obtain what he wants. Putin does not care about the "opinion of the world", I imagine he is ready also to destroy NATO bases in Europe should they become a problem.

Kandasa@ bravery alone does not bring victory there has to be political acumen as well. He sadly lacked it and has got Ukraine devastated.

I had heard he was a comedian yes. Certainly nothing is funny about this situation over there now. I hear he is being hunted by Russian special agents. Poor guy if something happens to him, the people might lose their will to fight.

You must be aware that his name features in the Pandora papers with 35 world leaders secret money laundering and bank accounts have been published, Zelenskyy and his aides are mentioned for money laundering and owning expensive property in London. It is lucky that war has commenced otherwise he has to be investigated for these illegal financial activities. A coin has two sides.

There are a very few Russians who have all the wealth while the rest of the country stagnates with very few services. In Russia, there are those with a great deal of weath, all stashed away in other countries, while the rest of the people struggle.
