Goal to Read 5 Books in a Year

I have estimated how long I finish a book on average give or take the length of the book and how much I like it and I came up with 5 novels I can read given my load. This of course responsibilities of earning money, keeping the house, relationships, planning and self care. So far I have read 2 books - Thorn Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami and Night Circus. I am currently reading Six of Crows. Last night I was hooked and read for hours. That says a lot about how I much I am enjoying a book. There are times I get into a slump and dont care about the book I'm reading. But now I have fallen in love again with books and even if I'm not through reading my current one I am already planning on what the next 2 books I will read.

@RubyHawk Oh you are also an Agatha Christie fan? What all novels from her have you read?

@yoalldudes There’s so many authors I’ve never heard of. I’m always on the lookout.

I hope to read one book by her as well. Perhaps next year. I'm trying to read a book from different authors. I have tried Haruki Murakami.

It is good to keep a reading goal. Reading helps us in so many ways. I keep some time for reading aside in the afternoon...it can be books, newspaper or just any magazine of interest. I am inspired by you..I should also keep a goal. But then I am bad at reaching goals

@yoalldudes Yes, we do inspire each other. In fact yesterday I picked up a book that I bought last year for my younger daughter and read some of it. It's a light read and so good one to start with

That is a good plan. I too have been in regular book reading habit, although it has slowed down in the recent weeks. I would resume book reading after some time So are most / all of these fiction or non-fiction? Have a nice Friday ahead.

@yoalldudes That is good! Preachings and experiences of Non-fiction books are a drag at times. But I bought two non-fiction books on cricket in recent times.

Last night I was hooked and read for hours. It happened to me too, it shouldn't be hard for you to read 5 books in a year if they're all like that one.

@yoalldudes The book that got me hooked was Infernum 616 but it looks like it's only available in Spanish and Italian. Now I'm listening to someone reading The Way of Initiation by Rudolf Steiner on Spotify. Again, it's read in Italian, but I think you can find it in English too. It's an old book and hopefully you can get it online for free. It isn't fiction but it's about the "science of spirit", the author has its own ways to become a "superior man", actually it's mostly about finding inner peace and purpose.

@sabtraversa Thank you for all your suggestions. My TBR is around 50 books and before I get to the last one at this rate it will be years . Spiritual topics I read sparingly as it was the trigger for my mental meltdown in 2012.

I have read three books so far, two Italians and one an old Agatha Christine novel. I used to read more, but I am tired in the evening now.

@yoalldudes Yes, I liked all of them, particularly the one of the Italian female author. I was skeptical from the first pages, but finally I really liked the book.

@LadyDuck That's awesome that you take note of the nationality of the author. It is a joy to find books that become our favorites, I assume this one made it to that list.

It appears to be a nice habit to start. Unfortunately, I am not a book worm, which makes it difficult for me to read books. However, I enjoy viewing documentaries since they allow me to assimilate information quickly.

That is good that you have something you are interested in like documentaries. They are also entertaining plus informative.

I love reading novels too when I was younger, I usually read on until the wee hours of dawn, Any pocketbook with a strange cover would attract my attention, I've gone from Allister Mclean to Harold Robbins, to Leo Tolstoy, to Hardy Boys ( I forgot the author's name), to Daniel Steele to Leon Uris. I was a voracious reader too. However, now that I'm older, my eyes are failing me, and I could hardly read anything. Reading has become difficult, so I've been devoid of books for so long. It's good you can do that because reading would broaden your vocabulary and inspire you to write as well, Good luck.

I would sometimes lay in bed with glasses on and it keeps falling. But we gotta work with what we have. I just love love books and because I cant afford it when I was just a student, and was busy taking care of daughter after that. Now I have the time but my eyes and mind is not as sharp back then.

I went for a long time without reading any books. Then this year I read 2 books and then didn't feel like reading again. I used to read several books a month. I don't know why I'm not interested.

I always try to read before bed. It settles my brain and makes my eyes tired so I go to sleep quicker. I don't know any of those books you mentioned. Are they fiction? I am currently interested in reading non-fiction books. I am reading my second book about the movie star Katherine Hepburn. Before that I was reading about King Edward of England and Wallace Simpson.

I read mostly fiction lately. Those books you mentioned sound interesting. I havent tried reading a biography. Wouldnt it be that they would be edited and doesnt reflect much of what transpired or are they raw narration of the personality?
