I Think I'm Just A Curious Person By Nature

Happy Friday Everyone! another hot summer day. No rain in sight and the storms they predicted must have missed us completely. Everything is so dry now that we have warnings about fires. Even the lawn crew didn't come this week as there's really nothing to mow. The grass is turning brown from lack of rain. Earlier this morning I had to go and get blood work done. I have to fast for it so I wanted to go and get it done early so I could have my coffee and something to eat. While there I got into a conversation with the girl who was drawing my blood. She was very good, didn't hurt and I have small veins which can make it difficult. I'm always curious as to how a person decides on a profession as a phlebotomist and her answer surprised me. She said she was a big fan of Grays Anatomy (the tv show) and got interested in the medical field but didn't think she'd be good as a nurse or doctor so she chose this. It's funny how we find our paths in life. I told her I admire anyone who draws blood because it's not something I would ever be able to do. I don't mind getting my blood drawn but I certainly wouldn't want to be the person doing the drawing. Are you ever curious as to how a person picks a certain profession?

Not really, sometimes people just kind of "fall into" their jobs. They meet somebody who helps them gets them a job somewhere, relatives recommend them, the like certain fields or whatever. My cousin is a phlebotamist but studied microbiology in school..it seems like he could be making a lot more money. However, I guess if you like what you are doing, and it isn't too taxing, its OK.

You're right about falling into jobs or being recommended. Most of the jobs I've had were that way. I have no idea what a phlebotomist makes but I guess your cousin could be making more if he studied microbiology in school.

@Marilynda1225 I think he just finds what he is doing now less stressful. Plus he is easy going and good with people.

My answer was basically going to be the same as@snowy223315 's except I don't have a cousin who's a phlebotamist. But I don't want to be accused of plagerism.

now that would be a big coincidence if you had a cousin that's a phlebotomist

I remember when one of our nieces announced that she had been accepted into a very good school for x-ray technologist. I had no idea that she was interested in anything in the medical field. I asked my sister-in-law about her decision for the career, and she told me that Stacey (our niece) researched it and spoke to people working in the field. It is a good career, she has been able to broaden her abilities by upgrading her education and doing CT Scans as well as various other diagnostic testing. She likes the fact that they are regular Monday thru Friday type of shifts. It has served her well as she is married now and they are busy raising 4 young children.

It depends on the job. Someone like this, yes, but someone who is big noise in banking? Not really, I think can work that one out!

One of my cousins is a psychiatrist. I asked him why he picked this profession. He said Psychiatry allows him to really get to know his patients, and he finds being able to alleviate their sufferings satisfying.

That's quite an admirable profession too. I think anyone in the medical field is doing it for the patients well-being

Sometimes a profession chooses you. I never wanted to be a teacher or a nurse but the work I do is often a combination of both professions. Everything I have done has been the opposite of what I thought.

Yes. I guess it's a process, a combination of figuring out what you enjoy and are good at and the opportunities that come your way. Sometimes, too, a person lives in a certain place and wants to stay there so tries to figure out what he or she can do locally.

Sometimes people do seem to have made very unusual choices when they choose a career.

Yes, I've asked the techs about their choice of field. It's interesting how they made their choices.
