My hometown is from Kaiping, Guangdong Province. But actually I haven't been there before. Last weekend my family and I had a trip there and we had a hot spring trip in a nice hotel and meanwhile we drove around. I must say the scenery was quite beautiful and natural there and this is what I liked. Diaolou is a kind of building and there are total 1833 Diaolou over there. The history is over a hundred year and this is why it is quite meaningful to see these old buildings. The attached photo is one of the photos I took there. I really like this kind of result I found a Youtube video about Diaolou Kaiping Diaolou and Villages Because of the pandemic, we won't have a long distance trip since there can be many unknown risks. Kaiping is about 150KM from my city and it is OK. If there is something wrong, at least we can drive home immediately There are also many hot spring hotels there and my parents really enjoyed it. I booked a big suite and it is enough for us to live together. Besides, there is a private hot spring jacuzzi bathtub in our suite and it was fantastic. Probably we will go there more often

Since these buildings are made of stones, so I guess it can still be there for some years

@youless My friend from Northern China visited Southern China very near Taiwan and the old houses there are also all made of stone similar to our Batanes island that is also near Taiwan. I think the houses are made of stone because typhoons always pass us unlike in Northern China, yes they last a very long time.

@louievill Probably you are right. Actually now there is a "giant" typhoon available here, but I think it is more like a joke. Besides it is a little bit windy, everything is peaceful in my city

Sounds fun and looks really quaint. Oh how I miss China. I never visited the southern part of China so I’m hoping to go back sometime and do just that!

@Greencindere I haven't travelled to Shenyang yet. I have travelled the north cities like Harbin and Changchun. I had a nice time there. As a person who was born in the south, I travelled there especially for the snow

@youless thank you! I hope so too. Shenyang will always have a special place in my heart as it’s where I met my now husband. We both are waiting for the time to go back and visit friends. Stay safe!

Interesting, I never knew that there is a place like that where the houses are a mixed of the eastern and western style of architecture. Is that unique to that place only or other villages have it? It has become part of your history now having them around and preserving them since I can see some have deteriorated already. I hope they can restore it or preserve it.

You sound like me. I was born in Bremerton, Washington but have never seen the place. I almost got to see it a few years ago when we vacationed in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada but didn't have enough time. Sounds like you had a very nice time.
