What do you do if someone in the family is allergic to shrimp and yet you wanna eat some?

So the brother-in-law works at a shrimp pond and yesterday was harvest day. Usually the owners would just sell ‘good’ shrimps and give away the imperfect ones to the workers like my b-i-l. He took home a lot of shrimps and gave us a kilo for free. Yey! I checked what stocks I have inside the fridge and came up with a simple recipe. Nothing fancy. Lol The only catch is my husband has developed what seemed to be a kind of allergy after he got the Covid vaccine. Whenever he eats shrimps, crabs, etc. he would have rashes and begin itching. The doctor recommended an anti-allergy medicine and told us he can eat them seafoods but in moderation. So last night, he took his allergy meds and enjoyed the buttered garlic shrimp con maiz dish or whatever you call it.
Photo not mine.

That's good that medication enabled him to eat the shrimp.

I am allergic to seafood but Pretty loves shrimp and lobster. When we were still getting food from restaurants, she'd still order what she wanted and I'd have to make sure to tell the restaurant that my order couldn't be packed in the same container with her order or I'd have to use an epi-pen after I ate.
Your hubby doesn't have as virulent a reaction to seafood as I do. That's nice he can still eat some... I used to love eating scallops but can't even eat a little bit or I end up in the hospital afterwards. (I tried once after we found out I was allergic to it and the doctor told me I could die from eating them. )

@sol_cee When the doctor prescribed the epi-pens, I wanted scallops again. I ate one and started having an allergic reaction... The epi-pen helped but didn't stop the allergic reaction. I had to go to the hospital. *sigh* A day at the hospital is too expensive for me just to enjoy one scallop.
I won't eat any seafood or fish now.

@DaddyEvil sorry, but it’s okay. At least you can still eat a lot of other food

@sol_cee It is. Planes will not serve them anymore on flights because all one has to be exposed to is dust from the peanuts. If it gets in the air, an allergic person could be in danger.
There is even a requirement on all food labeling to warn potential customers that peanuts or other nuts may have been a part of a previous production process, warning them there may be some trace of peanuts in a product that does not contain them normally.

@Beestring oh wow I’ve never heard of mango allergy. What happens when you eat mango, if you don’t mind my asking?

@sol_cee How fast did this allergy develop after getting the vaccine,if you don't mind me asking.
One of my friend heard from another friend she had of hers that she ate some fried seafood and was having a slight itch happening on her body but it was after her vaccine as well.I didn't know but it could be the same thing happening here. This was a while ago but I'm thinking she had some reaction which she never did before. What else could this vaccine be doing to our body.

Well I guess this might just be a temporary allergy and might just go away in time. I remember when I was young, I got an allergic reaction to crabs but then now I do not have those even if I eat crabs. I think there are certain kinds of seafood that have allergens in them that trigger some people. One can either adapt in time or become reactive to it. It totally depends on how the body reacts to it.

At least he got to enjoy some of the meal. Did he break out in any rashes afterward?

I don't know what to do, esp when the jab caused the allergies and side effects. It's best he stays away from eating prawns, unfortunately.
I hope he gets cured out of the side effects of the jab, eventually.

Oh good, the power of medicine. That would be hard to take everyone eating shrimp and you being left out. I have a niece that is allergic to eggs, so birthday cakes and snacks require some creative shopping.

well, we rarely (never) eat shrimps here, but in case someone's allergic or doesn't like something - we make him something he can eat
