What do you do when your computer freezes?

When my computer freezes, the first think I do is delete my cookies (and browsing history). If that doesn't work, I do a "warm reboot" of my computer. You know what that is, right? If that doesn't work, I do a cold reboot. If that doesn't work I drink heavily and call my friend Ken. If I can get to his phone number. It's on my computer. What do you do when your computer freezes?

My computer doesn't like the cold any more than I do, so it puts on a sweater... Seriously though, I check to see if all the lights are on on the modem. If not, I try to reset it. If that doesn't help, I just close the lid on my laptop and do something else.

@TheHorse Well, I have to touch it with my magic wand first...

@TheHorse I assume warm. I have never heard those terms before. I just do "restart". I have a relatively new computer so I don't have issues with it really.

@patgalca Warm means shut down and then hit "restart." Cold means shut the whole system down, wait a few minutes, and then start it again.

Typically a cold reboot. Usually it's to the point I can't do anything else. Besides curse its existence. So far, (*nock on wood* that hasn't happened with my MacBook.

I do most of what you've done. If it doesn't work, I delete my big files and Uninstall not frequently used softwares or program.

@TheHorse Yes, it did. Overloaded memories tend the computer to work slowly or hang up.

I don't know what a cold reboot and a warm reboot are. I also do not remember the last time my computer froze up. Yes, I check the router. If all else fails I do a hard shut down which I am guessing is the same as a cold reboot.

When my laptop freezes, I force it to shut down, wait a little while and start it back up again. So far, that's always fixed it.

@TheHorse I believe my laptop is just getting too old and I open too many windows at one time. (I have 21 tabs open right now. *shrug*)

Do you have hypotheses as to what causes it to freeze?

Threaten to throw it out the door first Then a restart to see if that helps. Sometimes have to do an extreme cold reboot by pulling the battery out for a minute.

I grab a warm blanket, a heating pad and hot cup of chicken broth. Doesn't do a damn thing for my computer but it helps me cope.

I shut it off and restart it. If that fails, I unplug my modem and router; and that usually helps. If it still freezes up, I usually overcompensate and buy a new computer.

Heh. I'd hate to buy a new computer right now. Too much stuff to transfer from one to the other.

I reboot it. Sometimes I just get annoyed enough and just factory reset my laptop. That's why I back up everything. LOL
