How do I explain written language to a cat? OMG! Kitty just did something she's never done before as I was writing my headline!

Kitty has been a pest this evening. I have been working on my book and taking MyLot breaks. She has been jumping partially up and putting her front paws on my leg. She then takes one paw and reaches it forward, as if to shake my hand. I have been petting her and letting it go. Finally, though, she reached further, and put her left paw on my desk. I finally understood what she wanted, picked her up, and placed her to the right of my keyboard. She explored, but wasn't sure what the fuss was all about. She looked at me. I am not a cat person, but I think they always find the "power zone." I tried to explain to Kitty that I was "writing," a way that humans communicate without back rubs, ear scratches, purring, claws or biting. Then I paused, wondering if my words were true. I picked her up and put her on the ground, where she fell asleep. As I started this post, A jazzy blues song came on the radio (an NPR station out of Sacramento that plays jazz during the evenings). Kitty came over, half-jumped onto my leg, and as I was half-way through my headline/title, jumped up on my desk, right over my keyboard. I could feel her partially retracted claws through the long pants on my left leg. But neither my pants nor my leg were hurt. She purred for a bit and is now asleep by my right elbow. Do I detect a new pattern developing? And what is that swirly ball with "cute cats" in the center? Oh no... Kitty...is...welcome...on...my...desk...any...time...she.. wants...to...be...there. The...Horse...has...given up...his... What is happening? I am trying to do a MyLot post. ...control...The...horse...is...my...slav... I'd better end this. I'm going back to my book. ...e...He...will...do...my...bidding...

Kitty is training you, now she knows that "just in case" she can ask to be lifted and placed on your desk.

Your kitty and mine must be related. She fought me for my Cabellas jacket and she won while I froze outside tossing carrots to the horses.

Albert Einstein famously quipped, “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” He was a genius and probably had a cluttered desk. Given your desk is in a similar state, I'm sure you can come up with a language understood by kitty.

I hope he really said that one. Einstein and Twain are often "kinda sorta" quoted. Heh. My desk shows me to be a rather active thinker.

And she knows it. I wonder if I'll find her asleep on my desk, just to drive the point home, when I return from an errand I am about to run.

I told you when your first adopted her, they rule with an iron paw. They consider themselves successful when they can make you do their bidding.

Cats just want your love and attention. And, they want to be as high as they can be.(high as in height, not mood)

Aww cute kitty well cats dp communicate well.my mom had cat his name was Pappy and he use to respond when my mom use to talk. And they use to talk like two ladies gossiping about neighbors whenever my mom asked if he is bund he use to meow. Whenever he wanted a small chat he use to come and sit in the kitchen and they use to chit chat. There use to be very interesting conversations between them. But he never responded to any of us.

Manny critters, including little kids, are quite selective about who they talk to.

Cat's may be independent but they attention seekers when they want it. They will do anything to mess you up when they crave that attention. I learned this from house sitting. Dogs easy compared to cats when they want attention.

@TheHorse — exactly, because she knew that you’d do what is right….which is feed him, love him, and become his slave too.

I am fully enslaved. When that "other cat" invaded my house a couple of weeks ago, Kitty watched from the next balcony and did not appear to be the slightest bit concerned.

Kitty is probably testing you to see how far she can go and wat you will do. I had a few incidents when one of my cats chose to suddenly jump on my keyboard by my desktop PC, On the computer table there is no room for a cat so I just kept taking the cat off and finally all of them have understood that my work area is a work area and they are not welcome there so that helped. In other words if you don't want Kitty to do something be loving but relentless and let her finally see where she is and is not welcome otherwise she will take over and do things her way and might wind up messing up your work.

Cats are generally very curious but adorable animals. They usually behave strangely and their movements are unpredictable.

I remember what Mameng, our male cat, is doing while I am writing some interactions in myLot posts from my handy phone. He rubs his head on side for I am reclining on my bed. I don't mind him. Then he tries to reach my phone. I move it away. He climbs on tummy and stays there comfortably.

Kitty slept for a while on my tummy the other night. Right now she's in her "bedroom" on the back of my couch, doing what she does best.
