A week into 2023 already?

Philippines
January 8, 2023 4:20am CST
It's January 8, past 6pm here. Hard to believe a week has gone by already this 2023. We had a quiet Christmas and New Year. No preparations, no visitors. A first and a relief! We had the same breakfast for December 25 and January 1 - chicken macaroni salad, sliced ham cooked in pineapple and thick tablea chocolate made from pure cacao. All the food I looked forward to every holiday season were available - the chicken macaroni salad, the ham in pineapple, fruitcake and sapin-sapin (a colorful, multi-flavored sticky snack made with rice flour and coconut milk). I was late buying and putting up Christmas decors and I failed to buy a lighted parol again (Christmas lantern). But at the last minute, I was able to buy new Christmas lights for the sliding glass doors and front window. Yay! I always take down the decors January 6, Feast of the Three Kings. It's been cold and rainy this week. We'd wake up to 27C/80F then it would "warm up" to 29C/84F. I'm sure it's colder in other parts of our small tropical country, but it's nothing for those with four seasons. So how was your Christmas and New Year? Have you accomplished something already this first week of 2023?

I together with my family have recovered from covid in the first week of 2023. Worth to memorize. We were in panic of being infected on Christmas.

It was also in January last year 2022 when we all had Covid (Omicron) even though we were all vaccinated already.

Good for you. We've start decluttering and selling (which is why the holidays were lowkey this year) and still have a way to go.

I took down the decorations yesterday, after we celebrated the Epiphany the 6th of January. We had very quiet holidays at home and this year very little food.

It's a relief not to be stressing out about buying, preparing, serving, cleaning up.

I have less than 3 more weeks left for holiday. Once that is over, it will be run run run again until December 2023.

@merrybelle2021 When I was younger, we travelled like mad! These days, I only want to rest my old bones, and to do things around the house before it collapses.

Your Christmas sounds lovely. Ours was also quiet. For a good few years now, I have insisted on having Christmas dinner at home. I'm happy to cook it. Other people are welcome to pop round (not that anyone ever does). Otherwise, it's me, my husband, and either one or both of my sons. This time, it was just 3 of us on Christmas Day. My other son did visit is on Boxing Day, though. We would usually visit other family at some point during the Christmas/New Year period but between my work and various family illnesses, that sadly wasn't to be this time. I'm sure we'll catch up with everyone soon. You say you were cold at 27C. We'd had high average temperatures for much of the year but December did not follow suit! I think the average was around 3C. We have friends in Canada who experienced lows of -40C. I can't imagine that. 27 would be comfortable for me! I haven't really achieved anything yet this year but I am about to embark on a management course. More importantly, though, we have some birthdays to celebrate. My husband and I are going to visit my eldest son for his birthday this coming weekend. It will be lovely to see my son. It will also be the first time my husband and I have had a weekend away together since our honeymoon in 2019.

My Christmas and New Year was not too special this year. Just chilled at home. Here too took down the decors on Jan 6. First week of Jan was pretty chilled out. Not done anything much. But now have to start working hard and work towards the goals that I want to achieve this year.

Although, it's already March, as I reply to this post, I guess I can say that Christmas and New Year were great because we have some family get together. Our decors are also taken down and everything is back to "normal". The weather is also still cold here with some rainy days. Holy week is fast approaching and I dread the high temperatures during summer.

It seldom rains here in NCR, and when it does, not so much. It still gets colder at night, but will stop eventually since March tends to be the transition period to summer. Are you in VisMin?

It was a nice Christmas with all the food and gifts anyone can dream of. I had a quiet New Year celebration at home and wished for better days on this new year. The days have developed as expected

We were having a holiday last December, but unfortunately, we could only stay at the hotel since hard rain didn't stop to pour. I am planning to paint my wall this earlyJanuary but then.. It is only a plan

We had a nice Christmas/New Years. We visited my daughter's home, children were sitting around opening small gifts. We had a very nice family dinner, ham and many other side dishes. For dessert, pumpkin and pecan pie. I never tried the Christmas cookies, not even one. We came home the same day, I was happy about this. I don't do well in crowds, for very long.
