This was during our visit to the town of Avanos is Cappadocia. Avanos is very popular to tourist and locals for their potteries made of red clay dating back to the times of the Hitites. I've always enjoyed watching pottery making but from this experience, I learned it is not as easy as it looks. I do have high respects for people who can do this well but I did have fun attempting to make a simple bowl. Have you tried pottery making before?

I tried making pottery when I went to school. They had pottery lessons and I enjoyed taking some. It's not easy.

I have not tried that. Yes, it looks easy but I think there is more to it than that

That seems a nice experience to do it and see for yourself how hard to make one. I am amazed by those that can make beautiful pots or vases since they are difficult to form.

@flapiz I can imagine that it takes a lot of practice to get to those nice potteries that they do.

It takes years to master the craft. The guy overseeing me has 40 years of experience.

Yes, I've done it at school a LONG time ago... I'm 23 years old now, you know... I made a couple of small bowls and an ashtray for my dad. It was interesting but not something I wanted to do again after the class was over.

@DaddyEvil We did some dancing and cooking too but not pottery. We do some boring stuff.

@flapiz You don't do stuff like that at school? How odd... You did dancing in school, right? And learned to do cooking in school?

My mother did pottery-making for a while. I know it's not terribly easy.

Not since I was about 12! And never using a wheel. One of my friends here though took it up a few years ago, it started as a hobby then she began giving lessons, then she sold a few pots on Etsy and at craft fairs - now her husband has given up his job and they both spend their time making pots and seem to be making a living. So you never know where it will lead!

This is why I want to explore and learn it. Because I want to channel my creative energy into it and hopefully earn from it too. Plus it makes good personalised presents.

Yeah we only did the shaping. We didn't have time to fire it in the oven.

I have never tried making pottery before, but I am sure if I did, I would make more of a mess than pots. lol
