Hiccup number 2 - how to open the safe

I wrote about the problems we’re having regarding getting a car in Ireland. There was nothing for it but to continue on getting ourselves organised to go. The car problem will eventually sort itself out. We have our passports and some euros in a safe bolted to the foundations in the bottom of a cupboard. Would you believe that when we went to open it today, the keypad wouldn’t open the safe? We eventually worked out that probably the batteries were flat. On reading the manual that came with it, there is a key to override the system but – we couldn’t remember where we’d put the key. After some time, we managed to find it so all is well again. The safe has been opened and only two sleeps to go now and we’ll be on our way. The photo is another one from Ireland. Can you see that the sheep on the right has three horns? It actually has four but only three are visible here.

Oh my Judy, I hate when those things happen, I get so stressed. I am glad you opened the safe, now you can relax. Cute goats.

@JudyEv - I am glad, it is incredibly how things always happen when they should not, Murphy's Law I suppose.

@LadyDuck Yes, it seems that Murphy might have had a hand in this. Perhaps he is Irish. It's an Irish name, isn't it? Murphy?

Coming on top of the licence issues it was certainly worrying but things are starting to work out now.

Vince had to go off to the doctor but was thinking that his next step would be to ring the airline to see what could be done.

@CarolDM He needed a letter saying his health issues were under control. This is in case we need to try to get an international driving licence.

That was what I thought, too, but did not argue.

@GardenGerty I know but they are an ancient British sheep breed - Jacobs - and they often have more than two horns. Photo courtesy Wikimedia

Oh dear Judy now that would give me the extreme jitters..I hate when things like that happen. Glad it sorted out though. Anything else now? God forbid Yes I see the three horns and it is because it has to be like the shamrock..the holy trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost That is my actual tattoo on my right wrist.

That would be scary if you couldn't access your money especially when we don't think to make a note of where we put the key. Did your replace the batteries yet? Don't forget to do so unless you'll just be using the key in the future.

@JudyEv you could write it down somewhere. In your phone book, in your phone or desktop. Then you wouldn't have to trust your memory as much maybe.

@MarshaMusselman That's a good idea. I have a file where I keep 'things I need to remember'. It could go there.

Yes, the batteries have been replaced now and we've made a mental note of where the key is although we probably did that last time as well. lol

There is probably a fourth horn out of the picture. It was a lovely caravan park with quite a few of the really old breeds represented.

We have swapping houses with a couple. It's not their actual house but an airBnB that they own. They will have our place - which is our actual house.

I have my safe key on my key ring. The other one is IN the safe so if my batteries die and I lose my key ring, I’m screwed. Sleep well and have a great trip!!!

Oh, wow! I'm glad you were able to get into the safe. I don't think I'd put the passports or anything else that will be going to Ireland back into the safe until you get back home again. Yes, I can see the three horns. I know there is a name for that type of goat but can't remember what the name is.

It looks like a goat but it's a Jacob's sheep. I don't know of any goat breeds with more than one set of horns.

They certainly look like goats but they are Jacob's sheep. The holiday park at Parsons Green in Ireland had a number of representatives of quite ancient breeds of sheep and cattle. I was in my element. They even had an emu! lol Edit: They are goats. That third horn is an ear. I'll just do another post rather than go through all the responses again.

I've always said there is a lot to be said for 'boring' and 'predictable'. I've nearly had enough adventures for one trip.

I'm glad that you were able to open the safe eventually. BTW, is it common for a sheep to have four horns?

What I thought was a horn is an ear and these are goats. I got it wrong. But there an old breed called Jacob's sheep and they can have four horns.
