Robot doctors?

According to an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tech person , in the very near future %80 of jobs currently done by humans will be lost to AI. As an example he mentioned the medical profession : " Most doctors will be robot doctors, and l might as well advise my son to train to be a plumber!" he declared. So who says AI won't be able to handle a plumbing job as well? What jobs do you think will be left to humans? Which jobs do you suppose AI won't be able to touch? Would you be comfortable being examined by a robot? Are you concerned yet?

Robotic surgery already exist and it's used to treat conditions affecting your heart, digestive system, prostate and more. Robot-assisted surgery, allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision. I am not at all concerned, better a robot than a drunk surgeon.

@Kandae11 - My brother is a surgeon and I know that they laugh and tell stories while they perform surgery, they are not there like in the movies.

@LadyDuck l remember being led into surgery on whatever it is they carry you in on . The doctor and his aides were around and they were laughing and talking about personal issues, but that did not bother me. In fact l felt more reassured than l would have been with serious faces.

You are so right, but people need a sympathetic ear , and the majority of surgeons do not turn up for work drunk.

I saw this on another post the other day. AI cannot replace humans. They have to be told what the problem is and how to solve it. AI doesn't have the intrinistic reasoning we have. They have advanced capabilities but they have to be programmed

I think we already have doctors who behave like robots without the help of AI (lol)

I am concerned. I do no want a robot for my doctor, but change is the norm and that’s likely what will eventually happen.

No robot doctor for me. I prefer to interact with a human.

I doubt you can make small talk with a robot or receive a comforting pat with the hand.

Well, robots have made a lot of surgeries safer, so that's a positive thing. I certainly wouldn't want a primary care physician being a robot, but considering the interaction required that would be difficult. Hopefully, we'll never get to the point of robots deciding whether a patient should live or die as that would be frightening.

Yes there will be pros and cons. Decisions in situations like that, l really don't see how they can handle those.

If robot doctors could help make medcine more efficient, I would be willing to try it. For serious cases though, I think a human doctor should be involved. A robot doctor isn't going to be very comforting to get seriously bad news at the doc.

Some doctors behave like robots , they show no emotion. While others show their empathy and are warm and confidence inspiring.

I'm not sure robots and AI will replace doctors. These technologies cannot and will not ever be able to empathize, sympathize, or understand the myriad ways humans react to illness, stress, injury, etc.

They certainly won't replace all, but l do believe in the future they will replace a large number. Technology is moving at a fast pace, if only diseases could be cured. As you will see, that reality - in some areas - is becoming closer.

I was watching a tv show (medical drama) and the doctor in the operating room was being assisted by AI It was fascinating to see how the AI could help the surgeon do a complicated surgery but I don't' think I'm ready for a robot doctor for myself. But, I'm sure technology is going to be more advanced than I ever would have imagined.
