Seems like forever

I don't even remember the last full post I wrote. But I'll start with getting through the last chemo and about two weeks past. That night I started hurting all around my middle, having chills and vomiting and diarrhea and knew I was in trouble. Dale took me to the ER (mistake number one...should have called the rescue squad.) Got there about 11pm, it wasn't very busy, I told the receptionist that I was a cancer patient, recently had chemo, had excruciating pain in my left side and had had chills and vomiting. Told the triage nurse the same thing. Told it to the nurse who drew blood and did a urinalysis. He assured me I would get something for pain as soon as they got me in a bed. But they had no beds at the time and we'd have to wait in the waiting room. So of course we went back to the waiting room, praying it wouldn't be long before they called us. For those of you who have had back pain from a kidney stone, you know what I'm describing. We waited while I was writhing in pain. Dale checked several times and was told the doctors were treating the patients who came in on an ambulance. At 6am, they finally took me to a bed and got some morphine in me. It was a blur after that, but my Urologist was there that night and rushed me into surgery. I had two kidney stones blocking the ureter (?) and he did a stent around both of the them to let the infection start running out. Then I was in ICU for two days because my blood pressure kept getting too low. Received massive amounts of strong antibiotics. Finally transferred to a regular room and came home yesterday. My Urologist came to see me and he's not one to exaggerate, but he said when they got to me, I had a two hour window before dying. I'm so thankful God arranged it for him to already be at the hospital that night. So, in the future we'll call an ambulance. Yesterday we learned that Dale's niece in Arkansas passed away. She was the age of our children and was like a second daughter to Dale. She had a heart attack, but had many serious health issues. My mind was chemo brained before all this and it's really impaired now, lol. But found out I do start radiation June 21, so it will be good to get those behind me. Please say a prayer for Dale, he's really broken hearted. Hope you guys are well.

I was thinking about you this morning. What a nightmare! I had kidney stones in the past but I never felt them pass. It was the gallstones that made me want to die.

They can be really painful. You got your gallbladder taken out didn't you?

These two kidney stones will have to be surgically removed in the next week or so and at some point have the stent removed.

@1creekgirl yeah that sucker is gone since 2010. It almost killed me. I'm glad you finally got the care you needed. I hope the removal goes smoothly.

Oh, Vicki. I had no idea you were so close to dying. I know this isn’t foremost on your mind, but did anyone go back and inform the ones that essentially blew you off, how close they came to letting you die? Thank the Lord you made it, and are back home. And poor Dale…To see his wife dying to losing someone young and precious; I can’t imagine. You will remain on my prayers, as always.

Thank you, Amber. I really don't know what's transpired in the ER, but I hope they're scared. Besides making me wait seven hours, they showed no concern or compassion. Not even a "so sorry for the wait, can we get you anything?" Nothing. I hope the fact that I was two hours close to dying scared somebody.

His sister who was my age passed away last May during our granddaughter's wedding which was really hard on him. We kept the news from Kristin (he walked her down the aisle.) But left the next day to drive from Charleston SC to Ark. He still misses Faye, now Donna was like our daughter. But God gets us through these things.

@1creekgirl Too many times the nurses at the ER are not at all good enough to spot the urgent cases.

Dale losing his niece, that's tragic! And you having infection from two kidney stones, blocking your ureter. I will certainly pray for you and also, for better medical treatment at the hospital. There wasn't any empathy or concern, it seems.

Thanks, Kharla. My Urologists are excellent and it was the grace of God they were there. They just didn't know what was happening with me. But we saw no compassion of any kind in the ER staff.

Thanks so much, Linda! This sounds odd, but this is the second time this Urologist has saved my life. A few years ago, same symptoms, but I thought it was an intestinal obstruction which I have at times. So I waited almost too long to go to the ER and came close to not surviving septic shock. But no one to blame but my self. I wonder if God gets tired of rescuing me. Sure hope not!

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this, the long wait in the ER. Surely they could have given you something to ease your pain while waiting for a bed? Some medical personnel can be very hard and uncaring. Sorry about Dale's niece too. I'll be praying for you both.
