Back in 2010 which is 12 years ago, Paramount Pictures made a live action adaptation of Avatar:The Last Airbender. It's an adventure animated series with Anime inspiration. The characters of this show have cultures inspired from Tibet, China, Alaskan Inuits and Japan. The Main character Aang is suppose to be from Wind Nation which is suppose to be Tibet. The Siblings Katara and Sokka are suppose to be from Water Nation which is inspired from Alaska and Greenland. Prince Zuko is from the Fire Nation which is suppose to be Japan and China. I uploaded a picture chart, At the top are the 2023 cast, which have the correct ethnicity actors for the roles. In the middle are the animated version. Then at the bottom are the 2010 movie version which have 3 Caucasians for the lead and One Indian actor portraying Japanese. The anger of the fans of the Cartoons back in 2010 is the same Anger of people who cannot accept the 2023 Little Mermaid. Fans of the Last Airbender are happy that Netflix hired actors who not only looks like the characters but also the correct ethnicities. Hope this becomes a hit so Hollywood will realize fans hate it when character ethnicities are being changed.

That's good that they have given chance to actors from different ethnicity. This brings authenticity. Let's hope fans like it a lot and make it a big hit.

The 2010 version cast Indian actors for villain roles and they are suppose to be Japanese. It looks racist since Indians are portrayed Evil while White people are heroes. The director also never watched a single episode of the show. His excuse for casting white actors is that they are the best actors for the roles but they cannot act to save their lives. In fact the 3 lead actors of the 2010 version have no careers and the girl remain relevant by marrying a Beckham son.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Well, such racist discrimination have always existed. We can only hope for it to get better. They should cast actors that do justice to ethnicity of the characters.

@arunima25 You know what is worst, the director is Indian. He should know discrimination first as an Indian in Hollywood.

Ohhhh, I wasn't aware of this series (but I know Avatar). There is no denying Hollywood and their actor picks for what is supposed to be "ethnic" - we've seen that happen for many years. Well good if things are changing for the better - making things correct!

@CaptAlbertWhisker I'm glad someone is making things right! The 2010 producers forget that Asians and Natives are also part of the audience - maybe even a big part.

@much2say Also they have this assumption white people only watches White people. Crazy Rich Asians, Black Panther and Encanto proved them wrong.

Not only the new cast have the right ethnicities, their costumes matches the characters and they look like the characters. It's also the first time we will see Eskimos on tv. I remember the Producers of the 2010 movie said no one will watch a movie with Asians and Natives.

I am glad more movie studios are realizing that shouldn’t be happening.

@AmbiePam Also people don't like racebending of all forms thats why Ghost in the Shell, Dragonball Evolution and Little Mermaid all flopped. Fans already have an image on their head what the character looks like because of source material.

Acting is not about ethnicity, just look how many African American actors portray the monarchs of Europe. Hollywood is finally using more actors with diverse ethnicity but sometimes fulfilling a role in a movie with the correct ethnic actors isn't possible.

It's possible in the US because of diversity and online auditions is a thing now, So the excuse of casting white actors for Asian roles is a no no in the 2020s. The 2010 version said they cast the best actors that's why they are white but none of those actors can act to save their lives and the auditions of the actors they rejected looks good. This boy they rejected 13 years ago was 10 times better than the white boy they cast years ago:

That is good that they do that. It shows heros come in different colors and races.

Also a white actor playing a Tibetan and an eskimo while also wearing traditional costumes is weird. Also its cool we finally see Native Americans and Native Alaskans getting Tv roles. There is no tv and movie roles for them.

You are so right, I hate when in the American movies they change character ethnicity. The Little Mermaid 2023 has been a big flop.

@CaptAlbertWhisker They are stupid! Why not to make historic movies representing Jesus as a Native American. This political correctness is the most stupid thing of our era.
