I wanted it gone

I wanted the cedar tree that was dragging on my roof gone, but not quite that way. We were less than a half hour from home after that non existent appointment when a friend of mine put several pictures up on Facebook of damage from the storm that passed through after we left. I looked and wow!! there was my house, my tree, my white pop up canopy, all in a mangled heap. Roof needed repair anyway. I have already had someone by who will tarp it and will put in a bid to insurance, and help clean up my yard that I cannot handle. Other people have stopped by to make sure we were okay. No glass was damaged. A car that I wanted Bob to get rid of was semi-crushed, so maybe he will get it taken away. We will figure out how to manage this, one little step at a time. Glad we were not at home, it would have shocked us silly. This is what I will be busy with for sure. Sorry if I am not around.

What a mess. I hope insurance responds in a speedy manner when you get ahold of them.

I know they have already started to file a claim. They say to have Alan submit a bid. I would like to have him do it. I would love to have the money stay local.

@AmbiePam Have not seen Alan today. Playing phone tag with insurance. I got the white pop up canopy put into the trailer.

Actually other than it being hot and humid, I am okay with my day. Playing phone tag with insurance, though.

The car was just here for parts and is not insured. I have wanted it out of here for a while. Bob STILL does not want it gone.

@GardenGerty You are lucky in your country. We are obliged to insure cars, even if they stay in the garage only for parts.

I will do the parts I can and have others come and help as well. Local handyman has a sick wife but he will work on it bit by bit. He will do a good job as well.

Just straight line winds, but it has been happening off and on for several days. Looks like it twisted the tree. I would say the tree was over 20 feet tall.

Wow, I was here when a tree fell on my house and partially went through the roof. It is very scary...another one fell nearby the house and knocked the heat pump off it's pad.

This tree rolled up some shingles. Alan has rolled it back down and will be getting a tarp. He is a local handyman. Sounds like your calls were closer than mine.

I got that pop up mashed and mangled into the trailer. And moved my plants out from under things, and the lawn chairs. It looks much better. My handyman is not showing back up yet. His wife is ill and he is a one man show.

I keep wishing you were here, you would tear into it and do stuff fast. Bob cannot handle being outside in the heat, although we do not use much a/c. I have tools but no skills. I guess I just wait for Alan the handyman.

Oh, wow...I am so sorry that happened to you. Maybe you can sell the car to a business that will buy it and haul it away? Big trees can do so much damage. My daughter and her husband had to have a huge old tree removed, and after that bad storm we were so glad that they had done that--several of their neighbors lost big trees and theirs would have gone down for sure if it was still there. It leaned a bit toward their house, so it was a huge concern. I am very glad you weren't home!

There is another tree just like this on the other end of the house. We lost a huge part of it about five years ago.

@GardenGerty The huge tree my kids had to have removed was so old. Incredibly big, and literally was thousands of dollars to have cut and removed. My daughter said it taught them a huge lesson--don't plant them too close to the house, and don't let trees get so big and branch over it. To be fair, they just bought the house last fall. But that was a huge unplanned expense for them.
