Is farting a criminal offense?

I'm not sure when I read this and which country it happened. A police officer arrested a man for farting! Did the man intentionally do it right at the face of the police officer to offend him that much? Did it smell that bad to be considered a crime? I think the news was just sensationalized. Probably the man was committing an actual crime and then he farted. The headline can catch more attention though than a simple "man arrested for stealing!"

I want to know why the officer had his face pressed into the man's butt so the guy could fart right in his face...

He was probably putting on the handcuff from behind and probably the man was bent over and something fell which he tried to pick up and then the man farted?

@toniganzon Pretty said the officer was probably patting the man's ankles, checking for hidden weapons when the guy farted. And I think that's an Indian paper. I'm not positive, though.

What a disastrous event. maybe the culprit got so nervous when got caught and then he farted, accidently in front of police officer.

Everyone farts so that should not be a criminal offensive.

It's a natural thing, unless one intentionally did it to offend someone.

@grantward7 A Japanese guy joined Britain's Got talent and his talent was farting. It was funny that he got into the semi-finals. But of course he didn't make it to the finals. He failed.

It happened in August 2022 in the UK. According to several news reports, the man was apprehended for shoplifting but during the course of his arrest, the man farted in an officer’s face. He was arrested for shoplifting of course not for farting.

yeah, DE sent me the article. I think I just read the headline and didn't bother reading it. But my guess was true that surely he didn't get arrested for mere farting. He did fart though.

@LadyDuck Yes it was because it was meant to catch people's attention. We read the same thing everyday in the news about crimes and such. But to have this headline that a man got arrested for farting would certainly make people want to read it.

@toniganzon I had saved a clipping of the article last year. It was written in a way that suggested he was arrested for farting.

Maybe it will become law that people should not pass wind in public places, haha not really . However I do hate it when I am in a shop and somebody nearby has recently let one go and I walk straight into it.

@grantward7 We call them `silent but deadly' and they are the worst because they are not expected and there is no warning sound.

We have a guy at work (he looks exactly like Santa Claus) that farts all the time, and his farts are deadly! I wish they would sew his butt shut, or else arrest him and take him away for inflicting so much pain and suffering on us.

@toniganzon He always makes a habit of purposely coming into my office and farting, and then leaving. And then I'm stuck in there for the rest of the day with a green cloud of toxic gas floating over my head. haha

This cannot be that serious an offence if at all. Police officers should not waste time gunning for those who fart. The silence ones are tougher to deal with!

The man was being arrested anyway. Too bad they had to add farting to the charges. lolololol Enjoy your day.

Arresting someone for solely farting would generally be considered an extreme and careless action it is not an offence

I don' think farting was really the cause of the arrest.
