Hello from the Crazy Chicken Lady!

Eggs
United States
August 5, 2023 7:34am CST
Our chickens are finally laying a good amount of eggs. We get about a dozen or more each day. We are down a few chickens because of predators. Had to build a new coop because the original fell apart when it was being moved. We found a new home for 6 roosters and sent one to freezer camp. We were lucky with all the rain we had here in Vermont. Although we have a brook in our backyard we did not get flooding. Our yard was a soggy muck hole for a while. There are still places in our state that are having to repair homes, and roads that were completely destroyed. Thankfully our are did not suffer as our neighbors to the northern part of the state have. Little Miss completed 4 weeks of summer school. I feel it was a good decision to have her attend the course. She had lots of fun and gained strength in the academic areas she was weakest in. My bestie and I hope to go to New Hampshire before summer break ends. It will only be a two day trip, but it is much needed. Our girls will love it too. Not sure how our husbands will survive on their own. My hubby will probably call me several times a day. I'll need to make a supply of sandwiches for him because I apparently make them better. Hope this finds you all in good health and spirits. Hugs and love to you all.....EB

I'm glad the flooding skipped your area. There has been flooding in Missouri, too, but it skipped my area, too. YUM! I love eggs but I don't think I could find enough ways to eat that many in a day. (Yes, I know how to oil them and store them for later. I'd be sending a lot of chickens to freezer camp. ) I'm sure your hubby could make his own sandwiches... I wouldn't make nay for him... He's perfectly capable of feeding himself. (I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip. )

There are so many things you can do with eggs! My husband could eat deviled eggs everyday. I love to make custard with them or a nice quiche. The only thing I worry about is my dog when I leave the house. She has separation anxiety.

@DaddyEvil my cat is good for long stretches. I can't leave the house for 5 minutes without Ellie having a fit.

@ElusiveButterfly As long as the eggs are cooked all the way, I will eat them. I love them boiled or scrambled with other things added the best. (I love deviled eggs but don't like to make them.) Yeah, pets can be a problem when we've got to be gone and can't take them with us. At least with my fishies, I just have to put a feeding block in their tank and they're good for a week or more.

Poor rooster, I bet he did not appreciate freezer camp. Your eggs look beautiful, lucky you to have so many.

@ElusiveButterfly Lovely eggs, btw. What sort of polish do you use to get them so shiny?

@BarBaraPrz no polish needed. They have a natural bloom on them.

It's been such a long time since I've done anything fun! We usually stay home. Not that I mind but I need the change.

Good to see you here. That's a lotta eggs. Maybe hard boil some for your hubby, surely he can peel them himself Just kidding. I've known a lot of men who were really good cooks and a couple of them would only let their wives clean up after rather than let them cook.

If that's all I had to do was clean up the dishes I would love that.

I'm sorry you lost chickens to predators. I'm glad you're getting a lot of eggs per day. I'm glad Little Miss liked Summer School and it did well for her. I heard Vermont got flooding. I'm glad you're drying out. We need rain here. We're in a drought.

I remember summers when the ground was so dry from lack of rain. We couldn't use a hose to spray the kids. I used tub water to water my garden. The headline in the local paper said don't flush spiders down the toilet. Certainly got people's attention.
