Today Would Be

I realized today was August 29th (I thought it was the 28th), and that means today would be my parent’s 48th wedding anniversary if my mom were still alive. They got married very young, my mom graduating high school early so she could marry my dad. I’m thankful they got married young so they could get in as many good years as possible (before she got sick). When is your wedding anniversary? For my fellow single people, do your parents still celebrate their wedding anniversary? Or is it just kind of a give each other a card day…

I am sorry your mom passed so young, she deserved more years, and you and your family deserved more time with her. No longer married, which is fine. I read an article a few weeks ago about former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn-they just passed their 77th wedding anniversary! I mean...that's unreal. I'm sure that will no doubt be their last with them in such poor health, but that's a lot of years together! And yet, still devoted and love each other. In all honesty, I don't think I have ever in my life met a man I would want to spend 77 years with.

Maybe if we lived in different houses I could stay married for 77 years?

@AmbiePam Maybe, but not likely. After that length of time, people usually change and are affected by life’s happenings. And as we all know. People cannot control what other people do or how they act.

@Kouponkaren 77 years is more life than a lot of people get to even live, let along be married that long. I simply cannot imagine it. My former in laws, and yes, we have all remained close, have been married 73 years. They both have some major health problems, and recently had to go to a home to live, but they are still together and still dearly love each other. That's just a very, very long time!

I am sorry to hear about your loss but am glad your parents had many years. My husband and I celebrate our wedding anaverisy on Halloween eve and Halloween day, because we are not what you'd call traditional.

They did the right thing, neither of them knowing what the future held in store for them. I am sure that they had a wonderful life together, and now wonderful memories for your Dad, yourself and your sister. Our wedding anniversary is in the autumn, we both love that season. We always stop and have a special day together, often it is a working day, but we always go out for a special supper together where we talk about trivial and sweet things that have occurred over the years.

@AmbiePam I cannot imagine it being any other way. I suppose that is what people refer to as a loveless marriage. Such a sad way to spend one's life.

I'm sorry you lost you mom.. PJ and I will be married for 17 years next year. My mom's husband left her high and dry and didn't even bat an eye. It's ok though he was a stick in the mud lol.

Not currently married myself, but my parents just celebrated their 67th in the 18th of this month Kind of hard to believe! I have no reason to think they won't reach 70..but no clue how my dad will be doing then. He will be doing ell to remember his name.

I hate to hear he’s doing so poorly. Memory loss is so difficult on everyone involved. It’s wonderful to hear their marriage has lasted so long!

@AmbiePam Well, he's stable, you can converse with him but he can't remember anything from one minute to the next.

Happy anniversary to your parents! Goodness, I can't believe it's already the 29th - where did time go? Last month was our anniversary, and we spent it running around looking for a rental as our house already had some offers and we need to move already to make it to our work deadlines. Hubby promised he'll make it up to me, but so far we haven't had time yet.

Glad you have the memories. I know that my parents' anniversary is sometime in September and they got married in the DP Camp in Germany. I am sure they will share a wedding waltz up above.

That’s true if they had met and married later they wouldn’t have had that many years together. Very sad how young she was when she got sick. My first marriage I was married June 7. This marriage my anniversary is coming up September 5.

My parents' anniversary would have been today. It would have been 71 years for them. They passed away just after their 63rd anniversary.

As for me and our family, we have never celebrated a birthday or wedding anniversary. Because we make our days special every time.
