A New Routine

Dear husband started his new work today - he's still with the same company, but now in a different branch, if you will. He needs to be on-site by 5:45am, so he gets up around 4am. I got up at 4:15am to make him some breakfast. I made him a couple of egg-in-a-holes, and he brought yesterday's leftover dinner for his lunch later. I tried to go back to bed, but I cannot sleep anymore. So I got up for the second time, prepared my coffee, and decided to round up all our rugs for washing. It's still too early for breakfast, so I thought I'll catch up on some Mylot, start my morning devotional prayers, and do some dishes. Tomorrow, I start my new job. It will be a new routine for us both. These past few weeks have been refreshing and fun, but we also can't wait to get back into the grind of things. I wonder how long we need to do this until we retire. I know the husband will retire before me, and he said he doesn't care if he's not of that age yet (he will have the tenure). He's looking forward to not having a strict work schedule anymore and be at the beck and call of corporations.

That is something that you are both starting new jobs at the same time.

It truly is. We did not plan this, but we're not complaining. We're able to explore our new hometown since we're both off-work for the same period of time.

When my son was attending junior school there was a shift system. He was on the early morning shift so for an entire year l had to get out of bed at 4.30 am to ensure he arrived at school on time. Many years later, I am still an early riser whether weekend or holidays, l cannot sleep late. Even though l am my own boss.

Sometimes our internal alarm clock gets used to waking up a certain time. During the weekends, even if I plan to sleep in, I still wake up around the same even without an alarm clock. That irritates me because I know I want more sleep!

Getting up early is working people's daily grind until maybe one reaches retirement age but for me I have used to waking up early now even if it's a holiday. One advantage though is we can go back to sleep during the day if we're not working.

That is true, if you're doing it for a long time your body gets used to it.

That's too early to wake up for both of you. You might adjust soon. Why is so early to report to work at 5,:45 am?
