Do you use energy-efficient appliances at home?

October 2, 2023 10:34am CST
I am talking about those ENERGY-star rated appliances, including LED bulbs and smart thermostats. They use less electricity while saving you lots of money and performing at their best. They also last longer in most cases. what energy-efficient products do you use at home?

I live in a rented apartment, so what appliances are used are up to management, and they don’t buy those. Management is too cheap to spend the amount of money those appliances require.

@ogbenishyna I pay for electric, but they pay for water. They could save both of us long term if they got the energy efficient appliances, but they don’t think long term. They just look for a quick profit.

@AmbiePam Thats true. Why are all property owners like that? All they are after is more profit.

Star rating is everywhere. Though I do not pay much attention to them. Yes they last longer but other factors or features are also important.

So some of these products come with fake star ratings?

I know they recently had to adjust the star ratings because even the cheaper new appliances were hitting the best standards and the better built ones are much more energy efficient than was required under the old system. We use energy efficient things. I also use an instant pot and a slow cooker instead of the oven a lot of the time as they use less energy. My washing machine was one of the highest rated when it was bought twelve years ago but I imagine that might be different now. I won't change it yet, I don't tend to buy a new thing until the old one is beyond repair and then I like to research what is the best for energy efficiency and reliability.

I've used the bulbs for years, as soon as they were available. They make a huge difference. I moved to my home here over 10 years ago. I put in all new LED bulbs. I didn't change one out for almost 7 years, they last a very long time. I do have a smart thermostat as well.

@ogbenishyna They are worth the extra expense. They save money by using less power and they last a very long time.
