That Was Easy Enough

I thought I was going to run into a problem. But, as luck would have it, and luck is rarely on my side, it was no problem at all. The tags on my truck expired at the end of September and while I normally get a slip to take to the renewal place, for some reason either I didn't get one this time or lost it. But I am sure I simply didn't get one since I always put them on the fridge. I walked in, explained my situation, and the guy told me all he needs is my license plate number. So, I gave it to him and presto, I paid and got my sticker. Perhaps my luck will also be on my side with the three lottery tickets I bought for the $1.2 billion Wednesday night Powerball drawing. Fingers crossed.

If you win the Powerball, would you be so kind to donate a humble little chunk to the Jeff Moffitt charitable foundation?

Well look who's here ! Glad you didn't have any hassles with the renewal - easy peasy fix! If only winning the lottery were that easy . . . go in, show your ticket, they tell ya you just happened to have the winning ticket, and they pay you .

@porwest That's a long time - you missed out on 5 potential payouts . But of course if you win that Powerball, it's not going to matter. Well, maybe it doesn't matter anyway .

The DMV has always been very helpful. I'm actually surprised you didn't get charged a penalty for renewing late. PowerBall is now $1.4 billion! Good luck and have a good day. Glad you're back.

@porwest Let me try to exercise my statistics nerd brain. If "only" 20 percent of all possible combinations were sold the the chance of nobody winning in the next drawing is 80 percent. The chance of this happening twice in a row (as of today) is .80 squared, or 64 percent. The chance of this happening three ties in a row is .80 cubed, or (where's my calculator?) about 51 percent. (That figure is from my tired old brain and could be off a bit.) The chance of it happening four times in a row is .80 to the fourth power, which is under 50 percent, perhaps around 41 percent. So the odds are someone's gonna win in the next four drawings. Can I bet on this in Vegas? Probably. "Interestingly, it was reported on the news that only 20% of all number combinations were sold."

They give you a bit of a window, but I don't know how long it actually is. As for the Powerball, yup. Got to get some new tickets for the new round. Interestingly, it was reported on the news that only 20% of all number combinations were sold. That surprised me considering the jackpot amount, but they also said more people buy tickets for the Saturday drawings and they typically are where the winners come from. So, load up I guess. lol

@TheHorse Wow. That's a lot of math to digest. If it helps any, every time no one wins the numbers previously selected are cancelled and the whole thing starts from 0% in the next drawing.

Luckily all I have to do is go to the emissions testing facility and I can renew there. There's never a line and I can get it done in about five minutes. Very convenient.

@kaylachan Yeah. Any trip to the DMV is a nightmare. All those people and that constant bell tone and that horrible voice, "Now serving # 1...4...7..." I want to pull my hair out.

@Fleura You'd be the type to win. I don't know how many winners say they never played until the one time they did and won. It pisses off players like me who have been playing for 30+ years with nary a dime to show for it. lol
