Mass shooter on the loose in Maine, many lives lost.

And the suspect is still at large. This is in Lewistown, Maine--a nice little town, I enjoyed a bit of time there. Not far from Portland, not far from the New Hampshire border. According to the television news, so far at least 22 people are dead. Why, why, why??? What is the reason for these shootings? It doesn't solve anything. Some shot in a local bar, some in a bowling alley. These horrible happenings just tear me up, thinking about all of the family and friends affected, and the lives lost. Not to mention it could be anywhere, as in this horrible mess, small town America. So much for a peaceful little town that feels ''safe.''

@MarieCoyle I didn't read they know who he is now. The article I read earlier said they were still gathering. I haven't gone back to read yet. Just awful. So senseless.

@MarieCoyle My heart hurts for all those affected. I wonder if he is up in a forest somewhere or someone hiding him. I hope they find him soon.

@noni1959 NBC blurb that rolled across my screen-- At least 22 people have been killed, a Lewiston police source said. Police named Robert Card, 40, as a person of interest in connection with the shootings at Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation. Fifty to 60 people were wounded at several locations, including a local bowling alley, law enforcement officials said. A local medical center said it was responding to a "mass casualty" event.

Some people often say, oh, I live in a small town, nothing ever happens here, there won't be a shooting in my town, and on and on. Many, many mass shootings have taken place in small towns. We all need to be aware and careful.

@Treborika The shooter obviously has severe mental problems and if we had the right laws in place, this could have possibly been avoided.

I had to fix my post, for some reason when I typed the 22, I just typed 2. So I had to change it...and then it hit me, it wasn't just a number. It was 20 additional people that someone loved. I hope they find him and stop him as soon as possible.

@MarieCoyle Somebody dropped the ball on this one for sure. Now, he was in for treatment for wanting to kill people, and yet he was allowed to go home where his assault weapons were...??. I don't care if he came across as "better"or not. There should be no leniency where public safety is involved.

They know who he is now, but they still do not know where he is. sounds like they have located his vehicle, so now he's on foot.

My daughter and son in law were just on a cruise and stopped in Porland Maine, They enjoyed their little excursion off the ship and how nice Maine was. All I could think of when I heard about this shooting is that it could have been them since it wasn't far from where this madman shot all these innocent people. All these shootings have become way too common these days. I feel so bad for the families of these victims.

@MarieCoyle I can't believe that they still haven't found this guy yet. He's still loose and armed with an assault rifle. How do so many people have access to these assault rifles and even if you can purchase one why doesn't anything question why it's being purchased? People are getting killed every day and it's becoming so common that it's not strange to hear of a shooting. It wasn't that long ago that we were shocked to hear of a shooting. The world has gone crazy Marie and there's no coping with being upset or angry. The solution is just shoot everyone.

@Marilynda1225 I never thought we would arrive at such a place that we think about shootings, hear about them, know someone who was shot, or lost a loved one or a friend to a shooting. You hit the nail on the head. The world has gone crazy.

They say he is an outdoors person - so he will know how to survive in the forest. They also say he recently broke up with a girlfriend and the areas he hit were places they frequented. How can one protect oneself from the mentally unstable?

Yes, he is more than familiar with his surroundings and how to make it in the wild. As for protecting ourselves and others from people desperately in need of mental health care, I wish I knew the answer to that.

I really condemn such actions. I think this is the brutality of the security enforcers. Killings doesn't solve anything as you had said. I hate mass killings and shootings though

Someone has to be a sick individual to do such a thing and often times these mass shootings seem to be carried out by people who have mental issues.

It is thought to be only one person. The people in that town are sheltering in place, no school, no businesses open, nothing.
