I Have A Dinner Date

United States
December 8, 2023 9:24am CST
Happy Fri-YAY!! we actually have some sun this morning and no snow flurries. Look like a few warmer days ahead until some sort of storm comes through on Sunday. Today is my daughters work Christmas party. The company she works for is based in Connecticut which is a little more than 3 hours away. For the past two years she declined to go but this year she was talked into it so she'll be leaving around noon. Her sister is going with her so she won't be traveling alone and they'll stay overnight at a hotel. The company is paying her expenses which I think is awesome. I really luck out because my son in law offered to pick up pizza on his way home from work and we'll have dinner together. The he'll go home and let the dog out and enjoy his bachelor night. All his joking about having the house to himself and all the fun he's going to have, we have bets he'll be asleep in front of the tv before 9pm That's what my day ahead is looking like. Right now I'm enjoying my coffee and spending some time here to chat.

Today it is gorgeous here. Yesterday was so cold. I was down at the cottage this past weekend in PA and it was rainy on Sunday.

The daughter whose party it is isn't married (she lives with me) Her sister (my oldest daughter) is married and it's her husband that is joining me for dinner.

We had a sunny morning, and mild. I actually was able to hang out some towels in the sunshine to dry them.

@Marilynda1225 They were cool to the touch when I brought them in around 1pm, but that is because it had clouded over. I hung them up on the towel bars and that warmed them up in a little while. I am trying to cut back on how much I use the dryer.

Wow that's pretty good that you could hang your towels out to dry. We had sun for a short time this morning but certainly not warm enough to hang anything outside to dry.

It is raining since early morning, but at least is less cold than the past days. I am glad that your daughter can stay at a hotel and the company is paying her expenses. You should call your son in law at 9.01 p.m. I am sure he is sleeping so well he does not even hear the phone.

@Marilynda1225 Often, when we are watching a movie together, I look at my husband and he is sleeping. Your daughter is lucky, not many companies take good care of their employees.

I would even bet my son in law won't even make it to 9pm I think it's in mens DNA to be asleep in front of the tv. This company that my daughter works for is so good. They take good care of the employees and it's great that she got the job working from home especially after her long commute each day to that last job and the crazy boss.

I am glad to hear she is going to the party, and, of course, that someone is going with her. I hope she has fun, but I bet she will enjoy it. It’s great you have such pleasant company for dinner. And yes, you just know your son-in-law will be asleep early! That’s what my dad and brother-in-law do when their wives are away!

I'm sure both girls will have a good time especially since they get to spend an overnight in a hotel at the companys expense. They are even providing Ubers from the hotel to the party and back so they can drink if they want to. It's in mens DNA to sleep in front of the tv

When my sister worked for a private company, they always had a great Christmas party. My bro in law loved the food. I bet your daughter will have a blast too. Now that she works for the state, any Christmas gathering they have will have to be a potluck or something...it isn't like the state is going to pay for anything. I went to a work party once where I won the grand prize.

When I was working we had some awesome Christmas parties. Of course there was always that one person who got drunk and made an @ss of themselves

Yeah, I'd bet he'll be asleep in front of the TV too. We all need a little time to ourselves now and then.

Pizza sounds great. Enjoy the dinner with your son in law. I don't feel like cooking much this evening. Just had fried rice with egg, pea and carrot.

I've been in a cooking rut lately too so I'll enjoy having pizza tonight and not having to think about what to make for dinner
