Out of propane on Christmas eve

I had plans to make peanut blossoms, jelly cookies and old fashioned date balls today but we ran out of propane at breakfast. My husband had to drive ten miles to get a new tiny propane tank to hook up the camping grill inside. The tank he had was over 10 years old so he had to drive 10 miles to another gas station to exchange it since our gas station wouldnt fill it. I can still make the Christmas pretzels I planned to make since those I can do in the toaster oven. Thank goodness I didn’t plan to do Christmas at my house this year. We are going to my sister in laws house at 3pm on Christmas and doing finger foods. I was going to make Bacon wrapped date balls I think I can do them in the toaster oven as well. I’m not sure if my husband will be able to make the soup he planned or not. I think part of it has to be baked. The photo is a beautiful Christmas decoration my husband bought when he bought our Christmas tree. I’ve been waiting to think of a discussion to use this photo.

I love the picture (anything with a red bird). I’m glad you at least have at least a few alternate ways of making a few things. I hope the rest of your holiday is hiccup free.

@shaggin I think it became automatic when I developed a love for baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals as a child.

Gee, I wish I had known that you were going to run out of propane. I was using the electric cart at Wal Mart the beginning of the month and wiped out their entire display of portable propane tanks. There were sales associates from all over the store chasing them down. I, of course, high tailed it away from the site but turned off so I could watch the fun. They were busy for quite awhile. Of course they didn't use anything to stabilize the stacks of tanks so it was easy to topple them. When I went there on Thursday they had stabilizer boards between the stacks so they wouldn't topple so easily. I saw a couple of tanks under some display shelf units, so they didn't get them all, at least I did a good job of destroying the display. Hope you have a great Christmas even though you might not get to do all the great sounding goodies you mentioned.

@Bearartistlady I won’t get to make all the goodies I wanted for Christmas but I have all the ingredients so u can always make them another time when we have propane again. How embarrassing that must have been when all that fell. Sounds like they have smartened up a little to make the area more stable. I bet it happened more than once.

How are you heating the house? Be careful using the camp grill indoors. Merry Christmas.

@BarbaraPrz the house is heated by fuel oil only our oven/stove uses propane. The regulator on the camp grill was leaking so we wound up not being able to use that either. My husband made venison burgers on the barbecue grill outside.

@sallypup it definitely could have been worse. We managed to have a nice time anyway. My husband told me I held it tougher well not having a stove or oven and he thought I would have a meltdown but I didn’t. I told him I was more worried he was going to be angry with me. He said finding out on a big holiday there’s no propane wasn’t fun but we’ll get through it or something like that.

@snowy22315 absolutely I’m very lucky to have other things I can cook on. I’m also lucky the gas station my husband went to was open so he could exchange the tank. Nothing will be open Monday or Tuesday here.

@RebeccasFarm yes our stove/oven uses propane and we are out of it. There’s no gauge on the tank and I swear it hasn’t been as long as usual since I last had a fill. I will try calling tomorrow to get put on the list for a delivery.

I am sorry that you ran out of propane, but thankfully a kind soul filled your cylinder. I hope that you have enough to last.

@Juliaacv after this he can refill it in town and not have to drive the 10 miles. I’ll call Tuesday and see when we can get a refill from the propane company delivered. Probably not for a week or more so I am thankful to have the camping grill to cook on.

@wolfgirl569 the camping grill had a leak so it can’t be used. He put his barbecue grill on the porch but I told him I don’t want to stand out in the cold and cook not to mention my two year old would want to go out too and would run off. I told him I’ll ve eating lots of cereal and peanut butter and jelly this week but that’s pretty much what I eat most the time anyway. I’m too exhausted to make myself food after making food for them. We all eat so differently with me being a vegetarian.

@DianneN I called today and the place we get delivery of propane isn’t open today . Hopefully when I call tomorrow they will deliver within a week. New Year’s Eve and new years coming up I’m thinking it isn’t very likely. Thankfully we have a toaster oven, a microwave and my husbands bbq grill outside.

@dya80dya it really is lovely the Christmas decoration he picked out. Unfortunately it’s a very crowded spot I had to put it and it’s large but it’s definitely a nice addition to our Christmas decorations this year.

@arunima25 Christmas is over and I’ll be sad to have to throw this pretty decoration out. Thankfully most of it is natural so I can put it outside to decompose. We had a nice Christmas I will write about later.

@shaggin Oh! I will have no heart to throw away such beautiful decoration. Can't you keep it safe for next year? I do that for all my Christmas tree decorations. I keep them nicely packed in a box. They come out every year.

@Ladyduck the camping stove had a leak so we couldn’t use it. I did make the pretzels in the toaster oven. I’m going to make the bacon wrapped dates then my husband will cook them in his grill outside. He thinks that will work better than in the toaster oven.
