Kitchen gadgets you never use?

Two years in a row my mother has bought me Christmas themed spatulas. I realized I have never ever used spatulas in the 20 years I have been cooking for my family. Growing up when I would once in a great while be allowed to cook with my mother I recall her using them. I thought they make a semi pretty display on my kitchen windowsill though. You can see them in the photo collage I made. What are some kitchen gadgets others seem to love that you don’t care for?

I was going to buy an air fryer until I realised that I had nowhere to put it.

Those look too pretty to use. I use spatulas for lots of things, including scrambling eggs. All my gadgets are used except for my air fryer. What a waste of money to me.

@DianneN air fryers are good for heating some things up like leftover burritos or making chicken nuggets and French fries quickly. I don’t think you likely eat the things most people eat from an air fryer though since I think you make healthier meals.

@shaggin True. I used it to make brussel sprouts once and toast once. If I want fries, etc., I would rather make them the old fashioned way. My cleaning lady keeps dusting it, so when I get back north, I will give it to her.

I am one who can never have too many spatulas, or whisks. I am not on the trend to have air fryers and insta pots. I would not want to use the pretty spatulas you have, but like you would use them in a display.

@GardenGerty I do have many whisks and use them often. I love our air fryer it’s easy to heat up things like French fries and chicken nuggets when we want a fast not so healthy meal .

@LovesEverybody hmm gosh no I never thought about a fire in one. I usually put things in on 5 minutes flip them and then after another 5 minutes most things are done like chicken nuggets or fries etc.

@shaggin aren't you afraid of your air fryer? My sister bought me one, though I don't know why as I don't recall asking for it. I read the directions and it sounded like it could cause a fire. TOo much anxiety for one of them. My sister uses hers a lot Those french fries and chicken nuggets sound good!

@snowy22315 well that sounds pointless whoever designed that didn’t do a very good job. I have one that I was given about a year ago. I never thought it would work but I tried it a few weeks ago and was really surprised .

I use spatulas, but I want plain white spatulas, I am always concerned about chemicals they use in colors. Mom used to buy every year a kitchen towel with the calendar of the year printed on it. I have 48 towels with a printed calendar that I never used.

@Ladyduck gosh I never thought about the chemicals in dyes on things like spatulas . Good thing I don’t use them and just use wooden spoons I guess. Wow that would be a lot of towels. They last so many years one a year would be so nice but you’d still have it way way past the year .

@LadyDuck you could very well be on to something. Someday we may find out what you suspected in accurate how bad they can be for us.

@shaggin - I am so concerned by dyes in the kitchen stuff. I try to avoid. Two months ago I donated a bag full of kitchen towels still brand new.

I pretty much use them all in terms of things like spoons, spatulas, etc. My panini maker, waffle maker, and sous vide cooker have been collecting dust lately though.

@Njchicaa another myLotter mentioned a panini maker they’ve never used. I don’t think it’s likely I’d use one if given one either but I’d try it. I use our waffle maker a few times a year.

I have a couple of them but not fancy looking as shown by you. I use them often. What I do not use are the dinner sets, and tea sets.... They are languishing.

That is a lovely display. I can't imagine not using a spatula. I'm greedy when I bake- I want ALL the cake batter out of the bowl!!

@sallypup I wondered if anyone would feel that way and find it neat how different we can be with the same gadget. I use the spoon I am using to pour the batter out of the bowl to scrape the sides and get as much batter out as I can. I can only imagine it being a teaspoon or tablespoon that is left by the time I am done. I’ll have to scrape with with a spatula next time when I am done with the spoon just to see how much I am throwing away.

I use spatulas quite a bit, but I haven’t cooked much in a while. My sister got me a panini maker one year, but I have not used it once. I appreciate her creative thought though. You had a good idea to make the themes spatulas into more of a display.

@AmbiePam hmm I’m not sure if I would use a panini maker if I was given one either. I’d probably try it but I don’t see myself using it much after that.

Those are really lovely. I've never seen Christmas-themed ones here. I use a spatula all the time and it's one of the first things I look for when we house-sit.

@aureliah years I go I made myself a smoothie daily so I used a blender a lot. I hardly ever use one anymore. The sandwich makers I have seen but they seem like something I wouldn’t use either.
