I cried over chocolate chip cookies today

At Christmas time I planned to make a whole platter of cookies. I wanted to freeze half for us to have another time. I baked chocolate chip cookies before we ran out of propane and made no bake peanut butter oatmeal cookies. That was all I got to do. I froze some of them. My husband asked if we had any desserts last night and I decided today to thaw out the chocolate chip cookies. I went down and only 4 were left in the container. I was so upset I started to cry. I try so hard to make everyone in this house happy and this was a failed attempt. I texted everyone that lives here and asked if they had eaten the chocolate chip cookies in the freezer and everyone said no. I was pretty sure my stepson had. At dinner I told them how my sister loves me and knows how much I love fudge so she didn’t eat what was given to her and sent it to me. I love my family and instead of eating it all I wanted to share the fudge with them. There was cake in the fridge my stepson wanted to finish that sat in there for days until it finally went bad and I had to toss it. I wanted to wait on sharing the fudge until the cake was gone. Well the fudge went bad too so I didn’t even get to enjoy it. My point was to show it’s nice to share with others and not be greedy! I told them how someone in this house is lying about not having eaten the cookies. I told them I hate lying and due to this I am never making chocolate chip cookies again (I don’t care for them I make them for others because I know it’s my husbands and stepsons favorites.) Then my stepson said “oh you mean the ones in the freezer in the cellar, I’ve been eating a few every time I go down.” I said why would he eat them and not ask why they are frozen and if he can have some. I said what if I made them for an event and now wouldn’t have them to take.

Shame that the fudge went bad, but at least your step son admitted that he ate those cookies.

@LadyDuck I don’t have the heart to tell my sister. It was so nice of her. He admitted it too late. It wasn’t until I said I was never making them again that he admitted it. He needs to learn to quit lying.

@shaggin - Do not tell to your sister that you had to throw. Your stepson needs to learn to behave.

@LadyDuck he’ll be 18 in May hopefully he learns as an adult to be less greedy. It can take along time.

So he does eat a few everytime. I'm glad you addressed it so it won't happen again. I hope you make those chocolate cookies again. I'm sure your stepson will ask before eating.

@mildredtabitha he’s lived here 3 years ago was here a lot over the past 11 years while I dated his father so he knows how things run around here. Eating all those without asking was just being greedy and rude. It won’t happen again because I will not make chocolate chip cookies again while he is living here. I cannot stand when people lie it enrages me.

@mildredtabitha I’ll make cookies for all of us just not the chocolate chip. I don’t like them and make them for everyone and he spoiled it by being greedy. He won’t learn a lesson any other way. Lying isn’t okay!

Well, it looks like the culprit finally confessed. I think the next time you have something like that..I would label it don't eat. You know your hubby and step son never think of others,,,thinking they would ask if they could eat something is beyond them.

@snowy22315 I usually write a note taped to the top saying don’t eat these or what not but not always my mistake on this I guess. Why he would think it’s okay to just eat them and not wonder why I put them in there is beyond me. The things they can snack on I put in the cupboard up here. He’s so greedy how he thinks it’s okay for him to eat that many when 6 people live here and should have been able to have them.

@wolfgirl569 too late for my liking. If you only admit you lied so you will get more chocolate chip cookies that’s not good

@LindaOhio they were in there while he was at his mother’s and I knew it’s his and his dad’s favorite cookie. My kids know better to ask first so I was pretty sure it was my stepson. I guess correctly.

Obviously those cookies were very tempting. The mention of fudge makes me feel like having a piece - must be over 20 years since l tasted any.

@jstory07 my take on it is he only admitted it because he thought if he did that I’d make them again. Nope I cannot stand lying.

That is terrible that nobody would own up to eating the cookies when first asked, or even sneaking them and not asking what they were intended for. I would ask that stepson to bake what he ate, so that way he will realize the work involved.

@Juliaacv that’s not a bad idea especially my 80 year old finicky oven I have to battle to keep the temperature regulated while cooking. It’s not easy to bake in it. My stepson would surely get frustrated. I just told them I’m not making chocolate chip cookies again due to the lying. I absolutely hate when people lie. If he admitted right away he did it I’d have said the same thing why didn’t he ask first etc but that would have been it. Him lying just makes me so much angrier. If he wants chocolate chip cookies so badly in the future he can buy them I’m not making them again I don’t even like them.

@RasmaSandra yes I agree. Doesn’t seem like they would taste right but if he brought them up he would have gotten caught and since he was trying to pretend he wasn’t the one who ate them I can see why he ate them frozen down in the cellar.

So inconsiderate to eat the cookies but at least your stepson finally admitted to eating them. I feel bad for you that the fudge went bad. I can certainly understand why you were crying.

@Marilynda1225 fessing up too late in my opinion. I feel silly I cried over this. My husband is hard to make happy and I know how much he loves chocolate cookies which I seldom make so this was so upsetting to me .

@shaggin I think you're justified in feeling the way you do. I just feel bad that you have so much to deal with.

Somehow I liked this but never left a response. Maybe I had to go to the bathroom or something. I was going to ask how old he is, but I saw the answer in your comments. If he hasn't learned to be considerate by now it's possible he never will unless he wants to please someone later on. It doesn't help that he doesn't have much of an example in his dad.

He may not but hopefully one day he will change. I realized in very early adulthood how my parents were and how much different I wanted to be. We need to break the cycles.

@allknowing he kept telling me he wanted the cake and would eat it before bed but then in the morning it was still there. I hate wasting food especially when someone else could have eaten it so it wouldn’t have gone to waste.

@Judyev my husband complains a lot that I rarely make chocolate chip cookies which are his favorite so I was excited to have these I had made to pull out but my stepson ruined that. He ruined it for everyone else in the house that could have enjoyed them by him being so selfish.
