The other night my groceries were supposed to be delivered. I got a text that the driver was arriving, so I went out front to wait, to make sure they found my apartment easily. Most of the drivers have had no problem (my instructions are detailed), but this time I felt compelled to go out there. Only, they never came. I got a text declaring the groceries had been delivered, and they thanked me for being a customer. The picture the driver takes to prove the groceries were delivered to the right place was included in the text. The picture was pitch black. In broad daylight, they took a picture in front of my apartment that resulted in it being pitch black? No, obviously, the driver never came at all. The GPS where you were supposed to be able to see how close the driver was to you was suspiciously saying the driver was still at that grocery store. So I looked up the number to attempt to report the situation to get my money back. I dialed the number, and someone with a heavy accent answered. As you might have guessed, they were using a call center in a country overseas where English was not their first language (that is relevant in relating how different our cultures are). I told the very nice woman what happened, and she looked it up, and confirmed the pitch black picture sent as proof of arrival was confirmation my groceries had never been delivered at all. She apologized, reimbursed me, and gave me a $5 off coupon code, and closed the conversation, “Rest assured,” she said menacingly, “Your driver will be punished.” And with that, she hung up. I laughed my head off. The worst that driver will get is a scolding (that grocery store won’t bother firing them). But bless that call center representative, things are a little different in her country.

Oh, I’ll go back and relate that I was reimbursed. I should have said that. She told me to go ahead and place another order, and they arrived the next morning. So, it was no big deal.

Appalling that the driver lied, but for the sake of the integrity and reputation of the grocery store, I'd hope they get more than a scolding. Otherwise I'd advise finding elsewhere to shop.

I doubt they get fired, but I sure hope they don’t punish the driver to the extent that lady on the phone suggested! As for a new place to shop: this place offers free delivery, so it’s really appealing. Also, this way, I don’t have to carry the heavy stuff up my stairs. Doing it myself always messes up my back.

@AmbiePam oh I can definitely understand the appeal, if you have back problems it's never a good idea to aggravate them worse than necessary. I injured my back years ago (slipped and fell) and I STILL have pain from it at times.

I'm sure glad you got a refund and a coupon. Did they think you wouldn't mind not receiving your groceries?

Maybe the driver lost their ability to care that day, and they just no longer cared? I’ve heard of people finally breaking on the job. But the lady on the phone made it better. She was so sincere in her words!

That happened to me once with a food delivery and they were able to resend my stuff. Hope you got your whole order reimbursed as well as the $5 coupon and a reprimand for the driver. Guess there are scammers out there who think they can get away with someones groceries.

Yes, I definitely got my money back. Once she spoke so fiercely about the driver’s supposed punishment, I couldn’t even be aggravated anymore. She was so sincere! And yes, the scammers! Like no one will report them or something; it’s ridiculous.

That's good that you got reimbursed...and that is nice of them to give you a $5 off coupon. It is interesting to see how different things are in different places.

That is pretty bad. I wonder if the driver was needing some groceries and decided to take yours. Glad that yours got straightened out. We haven't experienced anything like that but have had items not be included in a delivery. The store let us get what was left off.

I recall several delivery people in my area getting into trouble by basically heisting people's orders in the past. It was said they admitted to taking what they took by poking in the bags and it there was a lot of meat and expensive items, those were the orders they helped themselves tol One delivery driver for grocery delivery was in cahoots with the personal shopper person the grocery used, and they had quite the system going, until they were caught! Knowing you and your good heart, if that were the case and you thought someone was hungry, you would have shared what you had with them. ''Get a scolding'' and ''being punished'' almost sounds like he/she will get yelled at and then beaten while tied up to a stake somewhere...but hopefully not! Good grief.

I rarely have problems with Instacart but not long ago a driver delivered some items that were damaged and the driver look shocked and told me I should call Sams to see if I could get a refund, I didn't, instead I emailed Instacart and was instantly reimbursed.

Yes, I had to reorder everything, but honestly, it wasn’t a big deal since it was more of a stock up order rather than a huge fill order. And, this time the delivery was on time, and everything was there.

Oh goodness. We had a similar thing happen with an Amazon package. FedEx said it was delivered but it never arrived. The seller of the item we ordered told us in order to get a refund, we had to file a police report and take a picture of the report and send it to him. We did that and got the refund. Nothing has ever happened like that to us. It happened last year.

It's the fault of the company who employ people from different culture and don't train them. I too faced almost the same problem today. My order was not to be delivered today but I got a message that the delivery boy went back. I have whatsapped them to deliver it to me tomorrow. Let's see what they do.

@AmbiePam So what did you do besides make the call in order to get your groceries? I like to see what I am getting. I hate ordering online. I go get my groceries in person so I can get what I need or go to a place where I can get what I could not find in the other place. I ordered online once and I had to substitute things and so now I just go to places and see what they have. I hope they will punish the driver or whoever made the mistake of not getting your food order to you. You wasted time and so glad she listened to you.

I can no longer carry my groceries because of my back problems due to a car accident. After she refunded my money, I just hit reorder on the website, and everything I ordered arrived the next morning. I’ve never had any problems with not getting everything. This was the first time out of about 12 orders I had had an incident.

@Hannihar Yes, I tried a chiropractor, and it did help at the time. But over the years it just got too bad, and I’ve had several back surgeries. The physical therapy, unfortunately, did not help. On the plus side, the physical therapy DID help my neck, which was also damaged in the car accident.

@AmbiePam I understand why you order online and so so sorry about your back problems. That must be painful. Did you do physical therapy or a chiropractor and did anything help? I hope from now on they get the order to you. The family across from us gets food delivered and the person or persons that deliver it get it wrong or she does it on purpose because they always put it in front of my door and I did not order it so kick it to hers.

@wardfcsc It has been going on quite awhile. Amazon does it too, way before the pandemic. It’s cheaper for companies to pay the people overseas than the people in their own country.
