2/10/24 - Update on Hubby

Calling hubby is useless. His phone is a piece of crap; and he can't hear me. The woman who is trying to set up a rehab location for him called me yesterday. One place was full; and one place did not want someone with "behavior problems". There is one left yet to hear from. She sent me a list of places...many are 1 and 2 star. I'm not sending hubby there. I've been in places like that - they smell of urine. I picked some 4 star places that were fairly close. Hopefully one will take him. Went to visit him today. When he finally woke up, he recognized us and was kidding around a little. It's so hard to understand him; and he talks gibberish a lot. It's getting harder and harder so see him like he is; and he's only eating a couple of bites of food a day. He's only going to get weaker and weaker. He is having some sort of kidney problem; so they are working on correcting that now. A sitter is always with him so he doesn't get out of bed. They haven't had to use restraints and sedatives lately. It's also getting harder and harder being alone. I don't like it; and it's affecting my mood. Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Virtual hugs to you and many blessings, I keep praying, I sure hope that you find a rehab nearby and I hope your hubby can finally get on the road to recovery. One thing that bothers me though is What do the doctors say is wrong with him? I figure you have to know to get someone back on his feet,

Hospital delirium. He's getting weaker and weaker because he's not eating though.

@lovebuglena I don't know. He lost 20 pounds before he went into the hospital from skipping meals.

I wonder if he feels as poorly about the entire situation as you do and that is what is affecting him. I hope that this is resolved soon, for both of your sakes.

How are you feeling? He's out of it a lot of the time. Sometimes he doesn't know where he is.

@LindaOHio I feel like I am finally on the mend. My muscles are still weak and I move slowly, but the lungs are clearing and I feel more like myself. Thank you for asking. I feel terrible for you having to see your hubs as he is. I can understand how you believe it to be hospital delirum, or even an adverse reaction to some of his meds., as nothing came across in any of his testing. I hope that they can find him a bed in a facility soon so that he can come out of this.

Does he have dementia in his family? At least he is lucid and positive for the most part.

@LindaOHio .......My maternal grandmother had it I think. No diagnosis back then. This was in the 60's.

His mother and the women of the family had dementia. I am still hoping it's hospital delirium.

Question asked anand answered. I am sorry he's not doing as well as you had hoped, but it sounds like he's trying. At least there's someone with him, even if that someone can't always be you. I found myself lucky that I could sit with George.

The whole think "stinks" and it is hard. Coming here is no substitute for having someone at home with you. Big hugs lady. I hope you find a rehab, as it will likely help him.

@1creekgirl It frustrates me that I can't call him. His phone doesn't work right. He hasn't been restrained or sedated lately. I think it's because he's so weak. He's not eating. I hope when he gets to rehab things will improve.

@LindaOHio That sounds like Sundowners. My dad had that and it was pretty bad. It always happened in the hospital and he was better when he got home and it would disappear as soon as it came upon him. Hope your hubby gets moved quickly and he has a better environment.

@kareng Me too. He has to be without a sitter for 24 hours before he can go to rehab; and that's the problem. He keeps trying to get out of bed.

I am so sorry Linda. Do the doctors know why your husband is talking gibberish? I hope you can find a place near you where he would be more comfortable than inside a hospital. I hope you find a rehab for him and someone who comes every day to your home to help you.

@LindaOHio - I remember that our doctor told me that post-surgery delirium is frequent in old people (80 years and up), usually about 15% of them suffer of post surgery delirium.

If he has hospital delirium, older patients get confused, don't know where they are, etc. I'm hoping rehab will help him come out of it.

Glad you were able to see him. Why is he talking gibberish? That is not good! And kidney problems, hope they are not severe. Did this happen just now or were there issues before?

This has happened since he was admitted to the hospital. He may have hospital delirium which happens to older people when they get admitted. They get confused, etc. The kidney problems are new. They seem to be better.
