We're in for a Blustery Day

Yesterday we had a light rain all day. Today we will have wind and lots of it. Blustery days like this always remind me of Winnie the Pooh. These blustery winds are going to usher in some colder air. The temps this morning were in the upper 50sF (about 14C) but tomorrow morning we're expecting mid-30sF or just above 0C. Today is also Fat Tuesday or, as the French say, Mardi Gras. I remember reading a book when I was in junior high and one of the characters thought Mardi Gras was French for mow the grass. His thinking was that Mardi Gras was the day when the people in France began mowing their grass again after winter ended there. If today is Fat Tuesday, then tomorrow must be Ash Wednesday. Easter is coming early this year. Do you observe Lent?

That's the wind we had the other day in Indiana we thought you could use some of it so we sent it to you, maybe you can go & play with a kite.

Now there's an idea. I wonder how Sophie, our Corgi, would react to a kite.

Mardi Gras does not mean at all mow the grass, Mardi means Tuesday and Gras means Fat. In Ialian we call it Martedì (Tuesday) Grasso (Fat). The FAT comes because tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, and FAT food is forbidden during the lent.

I've never partaken of any Mardi Gras activities other than the little parade the little kids did at the school I last taught at. It was always so cute to watch.

Vince was once a very staunch Catholic but is now what they call a 'lapsed' one. So no observing Lent for us. We did observe Pancake Tuesday though.

I forgot all about Pancake Tuesday. When I taught at the Catholic School, pancakes and sausage were always what we served for lunch the day before Ash Wednesday.

@DWDavis It's a very old tradition. I didn't know about pancakes being served with sausage though.

I used to observe Lent when I was in parochial school; but I don't anymore. Happy Mardi Gras. That's funny about mowing the grass. Have a good day.

It's funny how that off-hand remark by a supporting character in a book I read years ago has stuck with me when I can't remember anything else about the book.

It's 59F here but the wind makes it feel cooler. With the sunshine, it's still a nice day and I got some yard work done.

Yeah it's windy here too. It was chilly when I went to get yesterday's mail. I didn't want to go out in the rain yesterday. That's funny about mowing the grass. I don't observe Lent.
