Daphne has a life anyone would dream of - she's an heiress with the world at her fingertips. When her charming, successful boyfriend, Jacob, finally proposes, Daphne thinks her life plan is on track... until her fiance disappears without a word. Detective Bento Santos is doing everything he can to hide from the cameras. After being involved in a case that lands him on suspension and, consequently, the national evening news, he's trying to lie low and doing sidework as a bodyguard. Until he's assigned to guard Daphne. Ben is determined to keep things quiet, and Daphne is equally determined to do the opposite. The closer Ben and Daphne get, the harder it is to remember that their relationshp is strictly professional and that they're not meant to be, rght? ~~~~ I love a romantic suspense novel. I really enjoyed this one. This is an indie author who also happens to be Canadian. She actually sent me this book in a giveaway. Not only is Ben protecting Daphne because she may be the next target, he finds himself investigating because that is what Daphne wants to do and he must be with her at all times. Daphne is determined to find her missing fiance. There were some twists and turns here but I can't say I didn't see them coming. I had most of the mystery figured out - not down to the exact details mind you. And meanwhlie, Daphne is falling for Ben and Ben is falling for Daphne but neither wants to let the other know because they have a professional relationship. That is until a couple of Coronas were consumed. I loved the relationship between Ben and Daphne. I was not crazy about Jacob from the very start. Who cares if he never came back? was my opinion. There are quite a few characters to figure out here: The missing Jacob, Daphne's assistant Gigi, Daphne's best friend Addison, the Police Chief who is determined to prove Daphne guilty by having Ben do some extra snooping. There's Jacob's ex Jasmine, or is she an ex? And there's Daphne's brother Olly who hired the bodyguard but never shows his face again. That's a lot of possible suspects. I did enjoy the current day references. Every chapter ended with healines from current media like TMZ, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Mail, etc.. There were references to current TV shows and celebrities. These all made the reader connect to the story. This was a pretty good story with a good mix of mystery, suspense and romance. I would recommend. P.S. I believe this is the author's debut novel.
