3/5/24 - Update on My Husband

The hospital called yesterday and said that they took out the breathing tube at 5 am and then discontinued sedation. When my husband came out of sedation he showed all the signs of hospital delirium again...wouldn't let the doctors see him, etc. However, by the time we got there he was back to his old self. I thought we were going to have to go through weeks of bringing him around again.
They had his blood pressure "stabilized"; but once while we were there it bottomed out again. The nursing staff didn't seem to notice. He is still in AFIB and stayed in ICU through last night. I will check before we leave to find out where he is today. We were there when they started physical therapy with him. He can't even sit on the side of the bed unassisted; but he has been in bed for over a month. It will take time.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Thank you, snowy. He's still in ICU and still in AFIB. He is supposed to be moved to a regular room soon.

The positives I take from this post, he recovered from that hospital delirium, and his blood pressure bottomed out but he recovered.
The negative, it maybe a while, and constantly on bed can make even a healthy person unsteady.
I think by mid April, you will be very happy.

@LindaOHio I think AFib does get more disturbed during weakness as well as operation. I think you will share some good news with me tomorrow. Hugs.

His AFIB is still a problem. It interferes with his physical therapy. However, I fully expect him to be home in a month.

@LindaOHio - I think that what the doctors must do now is to stabilize his heart, he cannot even be sent to rehab if the heart beat goes up so much.

@LadyDuck It worries me that when he's in physical therapy his heart rate goes up so high. It was 152 the other day just with him standing up.

I am glad to hear the removal of the ventilator went well. If someone is in the ICU their machine readouts are also monitored in the nurses station, it something isn’t right with the readings they can hear a warning beep there. I know I have had them rush in my room before when I was in ICU and I had no idea why but that was the reason..
And yes, he had been in bed for a long time so he will have to take some baby steps in his recovery. I hope he is not in a lot of pain.

He doesn't seem to be in much pain. I think he'll be home in about a month.

I hope he can regain his strength and the AFIB gets resolved so he can try to walk. After a month in a bed, I bet his legs feel a tad rubbery. Slow and steady, wins the race.

There will be ups and downs. It will take some time for his situation to be stabilized. Will continue to pray for both of you.

Yes, I really thought we were going to have to go through that whole delirium phase again. Thankfully that didn't happen.

@LindaOHio If he had a deck of cards would he play solitaire on his own to help keep his mind sharp?

@Juliaacv No, he wouldn't play solitaire. I feel bad now that I won't be able to visit him every day. I could bring him his fishing magazine.

That blood pressure thing and his AFIB seem to be proving difficult for them to get under control. I really hope the news gets better real soon and he can get out of bed and maybe even spend less time in a hospital environment. Do you ever think he will be able to return home eventually?

Three weeks ago I thought he would never come home...now I expect him to be home around the first week in April.
