3/8/24 - Update on My Husband

When we visited him yesterday, the nurse came in to take his blood pressure. It was 100/88. They are concerned that his BP continues to be low sometimes. He was very chatty. He had a physical therapy session while I was there. He is having difficulty raising his head when sitting on the side of the bed. The PT tech gave him a sponge to squeeze to help counter the weakness in his hands. We discussed his being transferred to the rehab facility. It won't be for a while yet. I was seeing my husband every day for 2 weeks while my SIL was in town. Now it will probably be once a week. Not real happy about this; but that's when my husband's cousin can take me. Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts and support. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Is there a Lions Club or other organization that offers free rides to hospitals in your area?

Check through his or your insurance, maybe there is a benefit there.

I don't know about the Lions Club. He will be going to rehab tomorrow. I need to bring my wheelchair there; and someone must push me around.

@GardenGerty There's no transportation benefit through our insurance.

Glad to see he is at least chatty and acting a bit more like himself. Sorry you won't be able to see him as often. I think seeing you helps him.

Well that isn't great. I wonder if the cousin can suggest other people to take you so you can see him more?. I would do what I had to do. Better his BP is what it is now than too high. It really isn't a bad BP just on the low side, some would be delighted with that!

@LindaOHio Check with the social worker there at the hospital. He/she should be able to provide some suggestions for you on transportation.

Check with some churches, the Cleveland Clinic itself, or the city to see if there’s transportation available to you because you’re disabled. I think seeing him a lot is good for both of you.

Call your senior center. They might be able to help with rides so you can see him a little more

@Tina30219 Yes, and you don't have to pay $10 a day for parking; and the parking situation is a zoo and the traffic is always backed up getting to the front of the building. There will be none of that at the rehab facility.

Is he still in ICU? I'm glad his BP is normal. The sponge should help a lot with his hand strength. I'm glad you could see him every day while your SIL was there. I hope you can go more often than once a week, but I'm glad his cousin can take you to see him. You're in my prayers.

@just4him They kept him another day due to his congestion and AFIB issues. He should be transferred today. I hope they take into consideration that he has had hip surgery. There are certain things he cannot do.

It helps you be more informed of his condition if you can get there and see the therapies and talk to people in person. You also become a "real person" to his caregivers and that seems to make everyone work harder. I am sorry you will not get to see him so often.
