No more taking huge tablets for me

Last time I visited the doctor to get a prolia injection which is supposed to help prevent osteoporosis, I was told my last blood test showed too-low levels of calcium and Vitamin D. I’ve had a month of gulping down tablets to correct the levels and when I went to the clinic a day or two ago, my levels were in the normal range and I was able to have the injection. I’m really pleased to be able to give up the calcium tablets as I was having trouble swallowing them. I was told that a tub of yoghurt each day would more or less replace a calcium tablet so I’ll be eating more yoghurt in future just to try to keep my levels up. I’m just so relieved to give up the tablets. The vitamin tablets are much smaller and easier to swallow. I’ll check out the different yoghurts to see which one has the highest levels of calcium. The photo is of a decorated farmhouse in the French Alps.

As I saw the photo I thought it was Switzerland, may be French Alps near the border, pretty. I am sure you do not like, but a can of sardines contains more calcium than a cup of yogurt.

@JudyEv The small towns near the borders are all very similar one size and the other of the border, often they were part of the other country in the past. This part of Switzerland was part of the north of Italy in the past. I am glad you like sardines and also canned salmon is rich in calcium.

It would have been near the border. I think Switzerland when I see it but apart from walking across the wooden bridge between Germany (?) and Switzerland, we didn't go into Switzerland. I knew sardines were high in calcium but didn't know they're higher than yoghurt. I like sardines so I'll eat more of them too.

Yes, yogurt is very good for you and contains a large amount of probiotics too.

I don't mind yoghurt so I'll get into the habit of buying it more often.

Yogurt is much tastier, too!!! Glad you’re off the calcium capsules.

Yoghurt will be an easy fix and I'll add some sardines from time to time too - to my diet, not to the yoghurt.

I do not like to have to take the huge calcium pills that I do each day either. I wonder how long it takes them to break down in my system, they are huge.

I think you can get chewable ones but I don't know what strength they'd be. I was cutting mine in half and popping them in a mouthful of food. It was still a bit difficult though.

@JudyEv You would be eating alot of the chewable ones, they have a very low dosage.

The house in your photo is beautiful. Glad that you can replace yougurt for your calcium tablets. That's good to know. I might have to start eating more yogurt even though I don't have to take tablets for low calcium but at my age I don't want to have my levels drop. I do take a Vit D every day and they are small enough to swallow easily.

@JudyEv I eat a lot of broccoli and cauliflower but I've never been able to eat sardines. My mom always loved them but just the smell turns me off.

@Marilynda1225 I love broccoli and cauliflower but Vince isn't so keen on them so we don't have them often. But maybe I'll buy them and cook them myself.

The Vit D I take are small too. The outside is transparent and they're a bright yellow - just like a tiny drop of sunshine. Sardines have high levels of calcium too as does crucifer vegies like broccoli, cauliflower, etc.

It is a lot easier to eat yogurt than it is to take big "horse pills."

Love the photo. Your body needs magnesium to use the calcium. Dark green leafy veggies will help with both. Yogurt will not hurt. Sunshine for the Vitamin D.

I'm amazed that you can take get vitamin D in tablet form. We were always taught it was only in sunshine.

That is a beautiful house .... well, it's the flowers that make it beautiful. I hate taking pills of any size so I eat plenty of cheese and drink milk which have good levels of calcium and I'm outside often on those warm days where I get plenty of Vitamin D.

It's the same way here but mostly when it's cold, I personally don't like the cold so I stay inside when it is. I love the warm/hot weather and make it a point to be outside more although when it gets over 95f/35c I make it a point to come back indoors after 15 minutes in the sunshine.

I was amazed to learn that lots of Aussies are low on Vitamin D considering all the sunshine we get. Apparently too many of us cover up too much to avoid skin cancers so our vitamin levels drop. You can't win sometimes, can you?

I used to cut the tablets in half and pop them in chewed-up bread but they still sometimes didn't want to go down.

We eat a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese and other dairy products so our calcium levels are good. We do take supplements for other things to keep them in the good range. What a lovely photo. You post great ones.
