Catching Up

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me, and as a result I've worn myself down. But I'm rebounding slowly, although the whirlwind will continue for me for at least another few weeks.
It all started with my week-long backpacking trip with my son at the end of February. We had a blast, although hiking so many miles with a backpack on was physically demanding. Then, a few days after that, I came down with flu-like symptoms and was sick for a week. I still have a lingering cough, but otherwise made it through relatively unscathed. Then, it was my son's 21st birthday, and we went to Epcot at Walt Disney World in Orlando to celebrate. We did a lot of drinking, although I'm not much of a drinker anymore these days. But we had an amazing time. That was followed by a trip to Las Vegas for my paintball team's first major tournament of the year. We played horribly. Probably the worst our team has ever done in the 5 years I've been with them. Not exactly how we wanted to start our season.
Today, I am in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, with family and friends to go to an NHL hockey game between the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Big interstate rivalry game. It should be a fun time this evening. Tomorrow, I drive to Orlando, Florida, to catch a flight to Seattle, where I will be spending a week visiting friends. I've been to Seattle a few times (mostly layovers on flights), but this will be my first time actually spending some time in the city. I'm excited because we're going to spend a few days at a cabin on Mt. Rainier, and also go whale watching in the Puget Sound. Very excited for those two things. Not excited at all for the 9 hour flight out there though.
So that's been my whirlwind of a life for the past month, and why I've been a slacker on myLot lately. Anything exciting been happening in your world lately?

Things are pretty quiet in my world but you seem to be having a blast. Hope you enjoy the game this evening. It will be a good one I am sure. Sounds like you will be having a great time in Seattle. Can't wait to read all aboit it when you get back. You only live once so enjoy every moment.

@Happy2BeMe Tampa Bay Lightning. They pulled off the upset and beat the Panthers 5-3. It was an amazing game!

Yeesh. I have to admit I feel exhausted just reading this post. As for excitement, I'd have to say it's just much of the same old, same old, but being a creature of habit, I tend to prefer that. But we already have plans laid for a whirlwind summer with lots of camping, a trip to Myrtle Beach and some other things going on.

@porwest I may be able to squeeze in one more camping trip before May, as it hasn’t turned completely hot and miserable in Florida just yet. Of course, I probably just cursed myself by saying that! Lol

@moffittjc I had something planned for April, but now it looks like we may have some conflicts, so May it is. We already have something booked for that. I still need to get the camper dewinterized and may just do it at home like I did last year.

Sounds like you can't seem to stay still. Sounds like George before his stroke. Now he has days where he's glued to the couch. Having an overcast day doesn't help.

I have always been a super active person throughout my life, but these days I do value those times when I can sit still. My hope is that when I get back from Seattle that I can take some time to relax and do nothing for a little while. I know that probably won't happen, but I can at least dream about it. lol

@kaylachan I go hard until my body tells me to stop. And trust me, my body tells me when I have to stop. And then I have no choice but to rest and recuperate.

@RebeccasFarm The cough is mostly gone away now. I still get a little bit of irritation, but I think that is mostly due to seasonal allergies, due to all the pollen and blooms.

If I can't shake this lingering cough soon, I fell like I'm going to be medically exhausted. But for right now, I'm not going to let that slow me down.

@LadyDuck Yes, it’s pretty bad from what I’ve seen. All the west coast cities seem to have a major problem with homeless people. The cost of living is outrageously high, and most housing is unaffordable.

So far, I'm having a great time in Seattle, although the city has really gone downhill since I've last visited. Too many homeless people everywhere, which detracts from the natural beauty of the area.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I'm so sorry your paintball experience was a bummer. You will do better next time! Your Seattle trip sounds amazing. Florida to Washington. Very cool. Have a wonderful time. Nothing going on here at the moment.

I was really bummer about how bad we played in our paintball tournament, but I am always optimistic that we will learn from our mistakes and play better in the next tournament. And in the meantime, I'm having way too much fun in my travels to dwell on the loss too much.

That’s funny! And true. And technically, I am retired, but still work a job. Everyone at work tells me I’m only working there so I can pay for my Disney trips. They’re not lying. Lol

Unfortunately, bills never go away. I just try not to let them consume me. Last night I paid all my bills for the rest of the month, since I’m going to be away for a while. I even did my taxes! (Which sucked because I owe Uncle Sam).

@Juliaacv Thanks, it was a very uneventful flight. And we departed Orlando early and arrived in Seattle early! I'll take that as a win any day!

I hope I have a great time in Seattle and that I have some great adventures to write about when I return. With my luck though, my adventures will probably be some type of mishap, or problems with my flight, or something like that. lol

I've been whale-watching before when I was on an Alaskan cruise, but the whales we saw were way off in the distance. From what I've been told, whale-watching in Seattle is much better as you get much closer to the whales.
