Dairy Queen in Kentucky forced minor employees to eat ice cream and cleaning solution.

I read this today, and then I looked it up. I couldn't believe anyone in any type of restaurant management would force their employees to consume chemicals on purpose. Evidently, the person in charge felt they didn't clean the ice cream machine correctly. This took place in Campton, KY. ''Patton told the outlet that roughly eight employees, many of them minors, were involved in the incident and that their manager had told the workers they hadn't cleaned the ice-cream machine properly so would be served the contaminated ice cream as a punishment.'' The owner states this did happen, and the manager involved is no longer working there. How could anyone in charge like that force people to eat this?? What is wrong with people who do things like this--does it give them a feeling of power? Didn't they think that there would be consequences? The manager that made them eat the contaminated ice cream could well have killed someone doing that. You don't mess with food, you just don't! No way would I ever want to own a restaurant during these times, if this is the kind of people that are out there being hired to be in charge of employees and food to feed people. contaminated-ice-cream-2024-2 https://people.com/dairy-queen-employees-claim-manager-forced-them-eat-ice-cream-tainted-cleaner-8603334

Of course those young workers had to be punished... they would have also could have killed a customer not cleaning the machine, BUT obliging them to eat the contaminated ice cream is a disgusting behaviour. I am glad that the manager has been fired.

@MarieCoyle - Dairy Queen should be responsible to train the workers so that they properly clean everything they use for the safety of their clients. I am glad I only eat at home now.

I honestly believe they were probably not trained in how to clean the machines. Those Taylor machines are not the easiest to learn to clean. It requires training, and I doubt they got any of that.

@LadyDuck Each machine had to be disassembled, many little parts washed, then sanitized, reassembled, and then have sanitizer and rinse before filling it up with ice cream mix. It takes much care and time.

I do not understand what goes on in these people’s heads. Obviously, these immature workers need a good lesson, but never this.

The manager forcing her under age employees to eat that stuff should be in jail, in my opinion.

I sure hope someone is, because in our crazy world, if they aren’t, someone else will try it!

This is certainly disgusting behavior for a manager. He should be banned from the F & B industry. I wouldn't want my kids to work in such a restaurant.

I wouldn’t, either, nor would I ever want to eat there! I have to wonder if that manager has children. That needs to be investigated as well!!

@UmiNoor I do hope some of the parents of the young workers file charges against the manager, who needs to pay for what they did.

That's called power tripping. The manager could have punished the workers in different way but not the way they were treated.

In the USA, there are very few things a boss or manager can legally do to ''punish'' a worker. In this case, they didn't need punishment, they needed training and a better boss.

@jobelbojel I do feel that the manager discussed in the article was not only poorly trained, but was not a nice person. No good person would do that.

If the job is not being done properly, he has failed as a trainer. There is absolutely no reason for this to happen and this manager sounds very immature and crazy as well. He has basically ruined the business, and his career, as well as the work ethic of the workers who were "punished" instead of taught.

I'm right up there with you on this. The business will forever be marked by the actions of the manager, no matter how it ends up. I hope there are severe consequences for what that manager did.

This is disgusting. They should also charge the manager with charges of child endangerment.
