A permanent reminder of our travels

When we toured Ireland and Europe in 2017, Vince wrote a blog for his eldest brother who wasn’t on Facebook. Now he has tidied up the blog and had it printed as a book, which you can see in the photo. He’s borrowed the title from the famous Tour de France bike race.
It’s very interesting to read and it brings back so many memories of the places we went to and the things we saw. There is so much you forget over the years. I’ve forgotten the names of a lot of the towns as the names were not common to me and over time, they’ve completely slipped my memory.
The book wasn’t particularly cheap to print but, now we can no longer travel much at all, it’s a wonderful reminder of the fun times we had.
The white splotch on the cover is from the camera flash.

That's such a marvelous way to preserve the great memories of your journey! It's a treasure, for sure.
I hope our kids will read my journals when I'm gone. The last three grandkids won't because they won't be able to read cursive! That would be funny if it weren't so sad.

@JudyEv Another book would be so special.
Kids here (not sure if it's every state) are no longer taught cursive. Although I heard something recently about that might be changing. I sure hope so.

@1creekgirl That seems really strange. I know one school has gone back to old methods of teaching reading and writing and the kids' overall improvement has been outstanding.

They don't teach cursive any more? I am right out of the picture when it comes to education. I've discovered I have a virtual journal of our first trip through my posts on myLot and I have copies of them all. We might be able to do a book of our first trip.

That's a lovely idea!
When I was young (after finishing school) I spent a month Interrailing and to reassure my parents I promised to send them plenty of postcards. I sent one every day (sometimes more than one if it was a particularly interesting day) and afterwards they also made a nice record of the trip.

Sometimes, unless you make a special effort, you never see the photos again once they're on the computer.

I'm glad we've done it. We're working on one on the 2015 trip now.

You are so right about how much we forget. I remember the names of some places where we have been in the United States, but I also forgot many. I should take out all the printed photo and try to create a book. I am glad I wrote daily diaries when we traveled.

@JudyEv - I started writing diaries/journals only a few years we traveled. I regret I did not start immediately. Sometimes I read where we had our meals and what we enjoyed or the places we visited. It is interesting to look back at our past.

It's a very "Irish" scene but it's was actually taken in France.

We're going to do one of our 2015 trip now. It will have to be our Christmas gift to ourselves.
