The Piggy Opossum

If you look carefully you can see a huge opossum in the dark of my porch from head to tail. He is making a pig of himself eating leftover French fries. Since my porch is on the second floor my friends also place food for him up here. He thumps up the stairs and snorts in what food he can find and feels safe on my porch. This photo I tried to take was in the middle of the night. I know the opossum has arrived when Freddie sits on the end table by the couch facing the door and begins to sing to the creature. It certainly sounds like a song. Now I don’t know if the opossum likes this or not because one time he charged at the door. Either he was mad about the singing or excited enough to come in and join Freddie in song, I of course would never open the door all I need is two cats and one huge opossum chasing each other around the apartment.

That would cause a mayor wreck in my house I have lots of little ceramic things on side tables. I am sure that wild creatures are best left outside.

Opossums are good for the yard. I don't know that I would feed one though...especially something like French fries. He obviously is used to coming around and getting fed. Have a good day.

When I was in college one of the guys had never seen an opossum before. He comes running into the dormitory. "Guys guys! I just saw the biggest rat I ever saw in my life". We of course went running out to have a look and it was some dopy opossum out there in the dark.

I can see the opossum, he is eating like a little pig. DO NOT open your door, can you imagine your two cats chasing the opossum, they would make a mess.

@LadyDuck you are right. Before this opossum, I had another smaller one who I could get pictures of by stepping out on the porch but then I had no cats. That one I named Harvey but he disappeared.

The visual of that possum and the cats cavorting in your apartment is kind of scary when you think of the mess they would make. Possums are best staying outside

@Marilynda1225 I agree besides as long as there is some food the opossum is happy to do its thing, I do remember one time opening the door to drop my trash into the bin below and scared the poor fellow, He just ran down the stairs,

@RasmaSandra that possum is lucky that he has found a place to eat.

Opossums aren't aggressive, unless they get cornered and afraid. I love them! We had one come into our cat's back porch, through a flap door. He was eating her catfood! lol

@kobesbuddy my two cats would start spitting and snarling if it tried to eat their food. When their cat mom Silkey sometimes comes to visit they do not react badly to mom but she better not eat their food, I give Silkey a small bowl of food up on the counter, After all she is a guest,

Oh yeah, he would wreck your house with the cats also in on the action! Don't risk it!

Yes, I see him. Yeah, you don't need them chasing each other in the middle of the night.

I can't see anything. I might try to lighten the screen and see if that helps.

My friend, in LA, feeds possums in the garden. The cats and possums seem to ignore each other

@RasmaSandra It sounds like Freddie loves to serenade it. You are better off keeping it from your cats.
