Beyonce's Rewrite of Jolene

United States
March 29, 2024 10:25am CST
Is weak. I mean come on, if you are going to try to make an impression, well, make one. The rewrite is boring period. I know Beyonce has made some very upbeat and popular songs. I wouldn't call this one that. Dolly asked fans to listen to the original before Beyonce's 'update' of the song. I know Dolly is not pleased, despite her being a very open artist. Have you heard the 'new' Jolene by Beyonce?

NO. No, I haven’t heard it. No, I don’t want to hear it. No, she isn’t country because she’s wearing a cowboy hat or can find Nashville on a map.

it isn't bad but it isn't country much like Dolly Parton's most recent record wasn't rock.

I didn’t know she redid the song. Now I have to listen to it to compare. I wonder what possessed Beyoncé to go country. I don’t see her as a country artist.

Dolly has said in the past that she wanted Beyonce to cover the song. She made the comment about listening to the original on Wednesday like for people to fill the time until Beyonce's version dropped. It wasn't said because she was angry. I listened to it. I don't have a problem with it.

I don't believe Dolly is pleased but dissing it wouldn't be her style.

@RebeccasFarm She literally said in a filmed interview that she WANTED Beyonce to cover the song. “I think she’s fantastic and beautiful and I love her music. I would just love to hear ‘Jolene’ done in just a big way, kind of like how Whitney (Houston) did my ‘I Will Always Love You,’ to someone that can take my little songs and make ‘em like powerhouses. So, that would be a marvelous day in my life if she ever does do ‘Jolene.’”

I know Dolly's version is great. I don't know who Beyonce is (I may have heard a Beyonce song but didn't know it) so don't know her version and want to keep Dolly's version in my head as she is a great singer and a super good person! Happy Easter

I just don't get how Queen Bee crossed over to country. I mean, she is fantastic in her own genre, but leave country alone! I didn't hear it, but I just don't want to (though eventually I will). From what I see on social media, A LOT of folks think this version of Jolene doesn't cut it.

Dolly has responded to Beyonce's version of "Jolene"
Dolly Parton took to X, formerly Twitter , as she reacted to Beyonce 's rendition of her 1973 hit Jolene for her country album Cowboy Carter on Friday. She penned a note in support of her music.

poor Dolly had to mentioned that, when it is her song. i don't like late versions of original songs and i am confused whay Beyonce is actually doing. if she has no other ideas, maybe early retirement isn't a bad thing for her

In my opinion it just sounds like a Beyonce album with country references. I love the Dolly cosign and the song with her and Miley Cyrus is pretty good.
