He thought he had a problem

For the past several months each time we plan to go out of town or do anything fun we end up with Bob having issues with his catheter and we go to Wichita V.A. We are hoping after he gets the hyperbaric therapy this will not happen.
Anyway, he thought things were strange in that area yesterday. He got up around 8 this morning and told me he thought he needed to go to the VA.
The nice thing is, if he goes on a weekday in the day time, they will work him in in the clinic, where they have all appropriate materials and machines that they need. That beats the heck out of an emergency room visit.
He got checked over, there is no problem. We feel relieved and safe to go to see my brother, and will do so.
I did not go. I poked around in some things I was needing to do.

Is he needing a catheter around the clock? If so, is this a short term thing? I don't know that I've heard of this before.
I do have two cousins with colitis I think it is and they have to wear colostomy bags. One has had problems since they did the original surgery. He went back to the surgeon several times and was told nothing is wrong but he finally went to a surgeon near him and they found and fixed the problem.
