Background: Drastic and significant event in my life over the past month and a few days have been causing me big unrest- physically, mentally and psychologically. May be what happened could sound everyday occurence to some. Yet a big and drastic happening for me. I thought of sharing it here in a way that describes the crux of the matter without being sounding like a Cry Baby (or is it Cry fellow). It might seem like parts of a short story, but I might talk freestyle. Event : I had been living in a rental place since Mid June 2022. Things were going pretty normal. There were certain challenges due to smaller house size, amount of things we had, lack of sunshine, issues of seepage and dampness. Yet we were managing quite well. In Mid Feb ' 24, my landlord called up and said that there is a likelihood of the property getting sold. Yet I was optimistic and as kids' exams were underway, I did not initiate into any alternate searching. Life however is not always rosy or predictable. During end Feb, I got the notice to look for an alternate place ... Notice period of One month... Upheaval process had started..... More soon...

@TheHorse Yes and when one has Tonnes of things and even a few rounds of decluttering just feels like beginning of a task. Well, Coral used to write good posts about de-cluttering.

One month? It is illegal here, the notice period must be at least of three months! I understand why you are stressed and frustrated.

@LadyDuck Many laws are heavily biased towards Landlords. Long time back, Tenants in many cities used to trouble but now the laws are too lopsided.

@LadyDuck Many of the laws were made after the events of 1950s to 70s. Then, many tenants, including commercial ones used to pay very less rent and many used to almost "capture" the place if they stayed for 10 years or so. Leading to litigation and even violence. Then, some rulings came in favor of Landlords. However, now the rules are more in favor of the landlords. They ask for Initial security deposit and on vacating, they cut a big amount on pretext of one thing or another. There are a few good ones as well, but many try to exploit.

@LadyDuck Such incidents also sometimes happen. I have even heard of a few court cases. However, in such cases, families of those in litigation sometimes can be threatened. In a few cases I have heard, people even hire Paid criminals. So not pleasant cases but they turn out to be bad for genuine people. In view of such cases, certain Landlords often become too suspicious. Yet going overboard with that attitude also causes stress.

Oh wow! One month is not very long to look for a new place. Rental homes here are like hens' teeth - very difficult to find indeed and expensive when you do find one. I hope there is a good ending to this story.

@JudyEv In some ways, we are still settling in. There are positives too but too many short term hiccups.

The housing market is in disarray here in the states. A month is not enough time but I hope you find a place. The next place may be better with no mold or seepage problems. There is a reason for everything.

@akalinus We are trying to be more careful in the next place. As of now, the laws favour the landlords more.
