He's Not Fasting

This ad is supposed to represent a guy that is fasting? What sort of fasting is he doing? The good kind I bet. I would fast with him, fastly. Would you? Do you fast? I used to. But it ruined my metabolism for real. Never again.

TECHNICALLY, a “fast” is “going without food.” So, unless you eat 24/7, there’s a period of time you’re “fasting” between meals.

What type of fast did you do? I do intermittent fasting and it has made things better for me. I think that fasting has to be done in the right way to help a person. Bad metabolism has been my problem for a long time. But I feel better since fasting. I cannot attribute all of that to the fasting though. I attribute it to eating better, healthier foods. Of course I am not going to gain great abs by fasting. And no, that guy did not get those abs from fasting. He did weight training.

@RebeccasFarm That is actually a pretty "normal" way of eating but is not really classified as intermittent fasting. For that, they want you to fast no less than 16 hours a day and prefer 20 hours a day fasting with a four-hour eating window. I rarely make it that long but strive for at least 16 hours.

Primal fasting is probably related to the primal diet. I think they restrict their eating to an eight-hour window, and fast the rest of the day, and night. I am too old to do such things now too, and I prefer to eat steadily, during the day, rather than fast, and have no energy.

Actually, switching my diet style to KETO and adding intermittent fasting has increased my energy. I am 68 and have lost 80 pounds this way. In addition, I do my best to eat no processed foods, or very little of them when I do, no pastas, or grains. But I do have cheat days. I don't use vegetable oils. I use pure animal fats , olive oil, and coconut oil. Fasting is not what takes away your energy. It is food choices.

@capirani It depends a lot on your current state of health. For a diabetic, fasting is not a good idea generally. Everybody should decide for themselves what works best for themselves too. Energy comes from food, so food choices are important, but when fasting, I am not getting energy from food, so I feel low energy, and want to eat something.

@innertalks Like I said, it depends on the food types you eat. Diabetes can be cured with proper diet and exercise. Unfortunately, the ADA promotes eating often, up to six times a day to keep your insulin levels at a basic level all through the day. But it has been found that getting the insulin levels down as often during the day is better for diabetics and everyone else. Fasting brings that insulin level down. It has also been discovered that insulin is actually the cause of most illnesses including high cholesterol. By keeping the insulin levels higher (to supposedly lower the blood sugar level) it actually causes your body to do poorly and keep you diabetic. In this day and age, the pharmaceutical companies want people to remain dependent upon their medications. If you get cured from diabetes and other illnesses, they do not do well financially, and their businesses suffer. There is a ton of information about this that you can research. As for the energy, you must raise the amounts of fats and proteins while lowering the bad carbohydrates. Your get quick energy from carbs, but not lasting energy. That comes from the proteins and fats. And they must be the natural fats, not the factory processed fats. Those will kill you. Remember, high cholesterol comes from high insulin in your blood, not from fats. By changing to low carb and high protein and fat, your body furnace changes to a fat burner. Your energy level actually goes up. However, if you are not used to this type of diet, it can make you feel sluggish and possibly sick for the first few days. That goes away and your body recovers, and your energy goes way up. If you have illnesses already, this diet takes time to heal you from the inside out. Obviously, I cannot convince you just by talk. If you are interested, do some research. But remember, a lot of people depend on you staying sick and in bad health so they can make money. I finally came off all my prescriptions, and feel better than I have felt in years.

Not intentional, but I have been intermittent fasting for years now . . . I just never had time to eat in the mornings, so I didn't . . . I didn't know that was actually "a thing". Naw, that guy can't be fasting!!

If he's fasting, I think it's an "intermittent fasting" weight loss method. I heard many people have succeeded. But I don't dare try. I don't want to risk my health. I think the calorie balance approach is more effective and healthier, as long as we are persist.

I have never fasted intentionally but at times I had to go without food or water for the better part of the day. I recall attending a meeting at a port when it was the fasting time for Muslims - meaning they do not eat during the day. I could not get even water to drink for 12 hours from 6 am. I do not like to punish my body by depriving it of basic energy input.

I was involved with a religion once, where we fasted every Friday, from food, and it was called a Friday fast. I did not really see any real benefits from this, as I believed it was punishing the body too, but it was a sort of a discipline, I guess. Breathing exercises are a similar discipline, but I think that the body naturally knows how to breathe itself, and at most times, we should allow this natural breathing to take place, rather than our replacing it with contrived breathing schematics.

@innertalks I want to let my body balance itself rather than fiddle with it based on dubious claims. I am also against invasive tests that can upset the body's defense mechanism.

I don't fast, but I do hear intermittent fasting can provide good results. I prefer to eat when I want to and I'm in reasonable shape.
