Well, this is it. Tomorrow the top ten songs of 1984 start appearing before your eyes. And you’ll probably wish they wouldn’t. As for now, I’ll close out the alphabetical list with a song that can’t possibly be 40 years old now. You Might Think - The Cars If you notice from the screen grab, I just put the audio up so you don’t have to be annoyed by Ric Ocasek’s face in the video. Hearing a song by The Cars takes me back to my first night in “the real Navy,” stuck in my barracks at NAS Jacksonville because Hurricane David was bearing down on the east coast of Florida. I spent most of the day listening to the first two Cars albums when I wasn’t checking the weather. This was after that, of course (that happened in 1979), pretty much at the apex of The Cars’ career. I’ll tell you right now: if you’re going to give me a band from Boston, make it these guys. Any day of the week.
