Almost Murdered Dookie This Morning

Canada
April 21, 2024 10:14am CST
We have some really high shelves where we store jars for canning and she decided to go up there while I was busy with other things. When I noticed and tried to get her down she got scared (not without reason). She knocked quite few recycled jam jars down and fortunately only two of them broke. I would have smacked her good but she's smart enough to stay out of reach of angry humans. She knew I was angry. After I'd cleaned up most of the mess she accidentally got to close to me and got caught. Got to spend some time out time before I finally let her go again. It's all cleaned up I've cooled off. Dookie is behaving and eventually came and made peace sitting on my lap. Hopefully, Francine won't kill her when the rest of the family gets home. I'm expecting an earful for not watching them close enough.

Ha ha! That's the main reason she's survived so long.

Where did she serve her time out?

Firmly clasped in my arms against her will. For whatever reason it seems to be an effective deterrent. We call it the forced cuddle. Later she came back and sat on my lap.

Your post remended me of the time when I found my neighbor´s can on top of my fridge. I don´t know who was more scared. I yelled, it meowd but it would not go down. Finally my husband climbed and got it. That was ,of course, many years before Luna. I don´t see cats around now that I have a dog.

@koopharper After all, they must look at us as if we were giants.

The yelling kind of scared Dookie more than anything else. My trying to reach her I'm sure was also quite upsetting to her. She's been behaving very well since.

@koopharper That's the thing about pets. They can be trained, but they do slip up from time to time.

@kaylachan Especially cats. My daughter thinks they have poor impulse control. Dogs can have issues when they're bored too.

Generally, they behave and they know they aren't supposed to go up there. She just thought I wouldn't get as angry about it as my wife would. She's settled down now.

cats are known for climbing all over the place & that's why I don't have cats.

Most of the time they behave themselves decently. They know they are not allowed to climb up in some of those places but every once in a while they will do it anyway. One of these days I'll find the time to make and mount doors up there.

Kitties can be really naughty at times, I use a spray bottle with water in it and boy does Tuffy get the message, he hasn't done the same nono more than twice.

Yes, they can. She thought she could get away with being naughty. She learned otherwise.

she's cute. My cat loves getting into cabinets and that's why I make sure the cabinets are always closed after using them.

I kind of have to make doors for them before we can close them. It might be better to completely redo the cabinets but time is not my friend on this count.

It's good only two jars broke. Cats sure get the message when you're angry with them.

It could've been a lot worse. A lot more than two got knocked down. Hopefully it won't happen again.
