At home with my girls because it's too hot outside

South Asia and SE Asia are currently suffering from heatwave. Here in PH, classes have been suspended in areas where the heat index is extreme. We've been roasting at somewhere between 41 degrees C to 43 degrees C - but yesterday, we hit 47 degrees so city mayors called off face-to-face classes and the students had to switch to distance learning for a while. I'm thankful to be in a place surrounded by trees. It's awfully hot when you go outside, the wind feels like sauna! But we've got pavements and walkways covered by huge trees. I still make sure to bring my UV coated umbrella just to be safe. And I bring extra ones for my girls when I pick them up from school and we have to walk two blocks to get home. Early mornings can be hot but still tolerable, so I usually just turn on the air-conditioning in the middle of the day and until late in the afternoon. At night, we wait until we're all ready for bedtime before we run the AC again. I turn it off as soon as I wake up in the wee hours, like around 2 or 3 a.m. We're expecting some cloudy skies and occasional rains because of the ITCZ, especially when the month of May comes. I understand that it's the heat wave and there's climate change and all, so I'll take whatever comes. I'm just grateful to be able to afford a cozy rental home with air-conditioning and a generator and enough funds to pay for an increasing electric bill. We try to save as much power and water as we can and reduce our carbon footprint whenever possible. I hope you're safe and well and fine wherever you are. Any plans for the weekend?

Here we are suffering a cold wave, it's colder than it was the past winter. As it also rains we plan to stay at home.

What a contrast! I'm wishing the weather was cold and rainy, and I could stay under a blanket and watch a movie :D

@tkonlinevn It costs a fortune to heat the house when the cold continues during the month of April.

What kinds of trees do you have? I would want A/C if I lived near you.

@almostoveryou Fascinating trees that sound tropical to me. They must be beautiful.

We have big trees like acacia, narra, kamagong, fire tree, etc. We also have bamboos. Our condo apartment complex has gardens and small trees too. About half a mile from our apartment is an abandoned lot with lots of trees it looks like a forest already. I'm thankful for all these.

@sallypup Yes, we're in the tropics. I especially love the fire tree when it blooms. The flowers are a bright red orange, and they fall from the tree too soon and then litter the ground so beautifully that I can't even push myself to complain even when I keep stepping on them.

That is true indeed.. Temperatures are really going sky high and many are advised not to go out in the sun and get exposed to the aun as you may be a victim of heatstroke or heat exahustion.. Yesterday it rained and was a bit cooler at night.

I really hope it rains some more. I woke up at 2:40 a.m. this morning and the temp was at 34 degrees! Yikes. I stayed in the airconditioned bedroom until sunrise. Now, it's relatively cooler. (It's 8:12 a.m.) Anticipating another hot day here in Cavite.

@almostoveryou Postpone outdoor work if possible. Especially when you have to go out during rush hour. If not, protect yourself carefully while working.

I hope you enjoy the time with your family during the long holiday. I've got a few errands that need to be done outdoors, but the heat is keeping me from doing them. Sigh.

We're here in our country house sorting stuff again before we move out in a few weeks. It was really hot here yesterday. We ran the AC from 8pm to 5am! Have a good weekend.
