Look at that view. Right over the Georgia/Florida border is Fort Clinch State Park, which WAS a Civil War fort (sorry, I’m limited to one non-Civil War fort per trip ). Since I was close, and I have a Florida state parks pass as well, I thought I should give it a visit, which I did yesterday (5/1). I was greeted by this. It’s called the canopy road, and you can see why. The trees and the Spanish moss provide a gorgeous drive into the park. The speed limit is slow because of the wildlife (some don’t pay attention to that, because I saw a dead turtle on the side of the road ), but even without the critters sharing the road it’s pointless to drive fast. I mean, who wants a drive like that to be over with in any hurry????? I think my GPS said it was three miles from the park entrance to the fort. Three miles of incredible beauty.

What a beautiful road! Sorry for the turtle and I hate when people drive fast on that kind of roads. People should respect the animals A LOT more.

I know. There was even a sign at the entrance warning that there’s wildlife crossing the road.

@LadyDuck — I always think of that verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible: “sparrows are sold for a penny, but not even one can fall to the ground without God knowing it.” All part of His creation, and I’ll treat them well because of that!!

@FourWalls I am furious with people who consider animals just "things".

@FourWalls Not sure what you mean by the Overseas Highway.

@snowy22315 — it’s US 1 from Florida City to Key West. It’s mostly bridges connecting the various keys along the way, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Straits of Florida on the other. Hence the name “Overseas Highway.”

Oh, yes, indeed. Got to take it twice, since it’s the only road in or out.

I do, too. It’s special in places in the Deep South where you have all of these trees with Spanish moss hanging from them. It makes for such a photogenic scene.
