How much and how many years do you need to study to become a doctor?

Our medical college student daughter has come home after her third year annual exam ( known as proff here). We can now consider her to be in the final year. One more year and she should appear in her fourth year proff exams and hopefully she can be an intern by May next year. After spending five years wracking her head on 19 extensive subjects she may be called a doctor. But is it sufficient? No, a general idea among people is that you are not a good enough doctor until you complete your Masters in either Medicine ( M.D.) or Masters in Surgery ( M.S.). To get into any of these courses one must pass a much demanding qualifying exam NEET PG. You need to acquire a rank that will fetch you a seat in your opted branch. You need to go through a rigorous learning for three years. Appear in another exam and hopefully you will pass it and get your degree. By that time you are about 28 to 30 years old. You can be an specialist spending three years more studying your chosen subject. Thus , half of your life is over studying , facing exams. And so, the question arises when will you make your career or do other things of life, like starting a family etc.? Sometimes , I question myself saying , is MBBS or MD or MS worth spending your life and money on? But, however, there is something that is attracting 25, 00, 000 aspirants to appear in NEET-UG, the qualifying test to get admission in medical colleges, on Sunday, May 4.

Usually 4 years of college 4 of med school and a year or two of residency..conceivably more if you want to specialize.

Quite many people feel that the government has made it more difficult for young men and women to be doctors.

Here it is 6 years and not 4 (3 years bachelor and 3 years master). After 6 years you finish your studies. After the 6 years you have two work 2 years inside a hospital or with another doctor before you can have your own office. My brother is a doctor, he was 30 when he finally was a specialized doctor.
